if you had just kept your promise
s2 - ep1
_________________A few months had passed, and the chilly air of late February settled over the school, bringing with it a soft haze that clung to the windows of the cafeteria. Victoria, Noora, Eva and Chris were huddled on top of one of the tables as they stared in disbelief at a surprising sight across the room: Isak, making out with Sara.
Victoria felt a pang of discomfort, remembering the secrets Isak wanted to keep hidden. She, Noora and Eva had stumbled upon his private life accidentally at the Christmas get together – when Noora had burrowed his phone and found open tabs of gay content. They hadn't told anyone, respecting his privacy, but seeing him now with Sara seemed surreal. She reminded herself that someone else's sexuality was theirs alone to share. Still the image unsettled her.
"I didn't think she was his type." – Chris remarked casually, spooning yogurt with a raised brow.
"Neither did I." – Noora muttered, her voice low, but she felt Victoria nudge her gently, as if warning her to let it go.
Undeterred, Chris continued, squinting at the couple. – "When did they get together?"
"Last weekend" – Eva replied with a shrug, exchanging a glance with Victoria.
Chris eyes widened. – "How?"
"Don't know." – Eva shrugged again, leaning in conspiratorially. – "Jonas said that she gave him a blowjob in a bathroom at an after-party."
Victoria furrowed her eyebrows, uncomfortable with the turn of the conversation, hoping Chris would just drop it. – "Since when does a blowjob make you a couple?" – Chris scoffed, oblivious to Victoria's silent plea. – "You're not together after that!"
Victoria spoke up, hoping to divert Chris's curiosity – "I heard they were already together back in 10th grade."
"Well, guess that means he's finally over you, Eva." – Noora teased, raising her eyebrows playfully. Victoria took this moment to slip her phone out of her pocket, feeling it buzz.
She sighed seeing the name on the screen, Lucas. They had hung out a few times during winter break, but as her feelings began to blur into something beyond friendship, Victoria had felt the need to draw a hard line, even if she couldn't entirely explain it to herself. The more time they spent together, the harder it was to pretend she didn't feel something sparking. Now, her phone seemed to buzz constantly with unread messages from him, each one a quiet tug against her attempts at distance. A task that had been more challenging with every passing week.
