Victoria stepped into her home, the faint scent of her mother's baking welcoming her. The familiar warmth of her house felt like a cozy embrace after almost a week away at Chris's cabin. She barely had her shoes off when her mom called out, excitement in her voice.

"Vicky! You're back!" - Her mom swept her into a hug. - "How was the cabin? I hope you girls took care of yourselves and didn't just live off pizza and chips."

Her dad appeared in the hallway, smiling warmly as he took her overnight bag from her. - "So, tell us all about it-what did you girls get up to?"

Victoria laughed, settling onto the couch, her mom already bringing over a mug of hot tea. - "We just relaxed mostly. You know, hanging out, a bit of stargazing, trying to survive without power for half a day..."

"Oh, that sounds like quite the adventure!" - Her dad chuckled. - "Glad you had a good time with your friends. Just you girls, right?"

"Yep, just us," - she confirmed, feeling a slight pang of nerves at how close her dad was on the friend count.

As they continued chatting, she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket and sneaked a glance at the screen.

Lucas Berg
saw on your friend's insta that you're back
did you have fun,
or were you just avoiding me?

Victoria hesitated, a small smile creeping onto her face. After everything that happened at William's party, the ambiguous tension between them still lingered, and it felt strange to see him checking in, casual and friendly. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, and she quickly hit send before regretting it.

not everything revolves around you, Lucas

Her mom noticed her distraction, glancing at the phone in her hand. - "Friends already texting, I see?"

Victoria quickly locked her screen, grinning. - "Just...one of them checking if I made it back okay."

Her dad leaned back, giving her an approving look. - "Good to know you've got a strong group around you, Vicky. That's what matters."

Victoria nodded, her smile lingering as she looked back at her phone.

The following Monday, Noora, Victoria, and Eva gathered at Eva's house. Noora lay sprawled on the bed, clutching a pillow, watching Eva intently as she sorted through her closet. Victoria, seated on the floor with her back resting against the bed, looked up at Eva as well, occasionally glancing at Noora. They'd come together to help Eva decide which clothes to donate, but their conversation drifted to more interesting topics.
