The news of Elara and Adrean’s engagement spread quickly among their friends, and the reactions were as varied as their personalities. The following day, they gathered at their usual spot, a cozy café that buzzed with energy and chatter. Luca, Ethan, and Nayra were already seated when Elara and Adrean arrived, hand in hand, their fingers intertwined—a small yet profound symbol of their commitment.

Luca’s eyes went wide with excitement the moment he spotted them. “No way! You two are engaged?!” he exclaimed, leaping out of his chair and nearly knocking it over in the process. “This calls for a celebration! I can’t believe you pulled it off without us! I feel so betrayed!”

Elara laughed, her heart swelling with joy at his enthusiasm. “We wanted to share the moment with you all in our own way.”

“What did you do? Hire a skywriter?” Nayra teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “Did you make it a flash mob?”

Adrean chuckled, shaking his head. “Nothing that extravagant. Just a quiet dinner.”

Ethan, however, remained silent, his expression unreadable. He stared at Adrean with a cold gaze, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. The air grew tense as the others noticed his demeanor.

“Come on, Ethan! Smile a little! This is huge!” Luca urged, attempting to lighten the mood. “It’s like a fairy tale! And I’m totally writing a poem about this.”

Ethan finally spoke, his voice low. “A contract. That’s what it feels like.” His words hung in the air, sharp and unyielding.

“What do you mean?” Nayra asked, her brow furrowing in confusion. “You think they’re rushing into things?”

“More like… it’s a formality,” he replied, his tone still icy. “Engagements don’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. It’s just a contract, a promise of something that may or may not happen.”

Luca, sensing the tension, decided to intervene. “Okay, Mr. Cynical! How about this:”

He cleared his throat dramatically and recited:

*In the garden of love, where blossoms unfold,
Two hearts find their rhythm, a story retold.
With laughter and joy, they dance in the light,
Together they’ll shine, through day and through night.*

Nayra clapped enthusiastically. “Bravo! That was amazing, Luca! You should consider poetry as a career!”

Luca beamed, but Ethan rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “You’re all delusional,” he muttered, clearly unimpressed.

Elara glanced at Adrean, who seemed unbothered by Ethan’s coldness. “What do you think?” she asked quietly, trying to gauge his reaction.

“I think we’ll prove him wrong,” Adrean replied confidently, squeezing her hand. “Our love isn’t just a contract; it’s something real.”

“Yeah, yeah, keep telling yourselves that,” Ethan said, dismissively.

“Let’s not dwell on the negativity,” Nayra suggested, her tone brightening. “We should focus on celebrating Elara and Adrean. They deserve it!”

As the conversation shifted back to lighter topics, Elara felt a mixture of excitement and apprehension about what was to come next. She knew they had to tell her parents about the engagement, and she hoped for their approval.

Later that evening, Adrean walked Elara home, a sense of determination in his stride. When they arrived at her house, he paused at the front door, taking a deep breath. “Are you ready?” he asked, glancing at her.

Elara nodded, though uncertainty flickered in her eyes. “I think so. But what if they don’t accept it?”

“They will,” Adrean assured her. “Just be honest with them, and let them see how happy you are.”
