The holidays had come and gone, and the students of Hogwarts were slowly trickling back into the castle, their faces still glowing from the warmth of Christmas celebrations.
The Great Hall buzzed with the sounds of chatter and laughter as friends reunited, exchanging stories of their time away from school.
Aria, however, sat quietly at the Slytherin table, absentmindedly pushing her food around on her plate.
The lively atmosphere didn’t seem to reach her, as she felt a heaviness settle in her chest.
The curse had changed everything, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep pretending everything was fine.
Across the table, Pansy Parkinson was watching her closely, her brow furrowed with concern. "Aria, are you alright?" she asked softly, leaning in so only Aria could hear.
"You’re looking really pale. Did something happen during the holidays?"
Aria froze, her hand gripping her fork a little too tightly. She forced a smile and shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant.
"I’m fine, Pans. I just got sick during the holidays, that's all. Nothing serious."
Pansy didn’t seem convinced, her eyes narrowing as she looked her friend up and down.
"Sick? You don’t look fine, Aria. You’re paler than usual, and you barely touched your food."
Aria felt a lump form in her throat, but she kept her smile in place. "It was just the flu. I’ve been resting, but it’s nothing to worry about."
She turned her attention back to her plate, hoping the conversation would end there.
But Pansy wasn’t so easily deterred. "You know you can talk to me if something’s wrong, right?" she pressed, her voice full of genuine concern.
Before Aria could respond, Draco walked into the Great Hall, his presence commanding attention as usual.
His eyes immediately found Aria, and a bright smile crossed his face as he made his way over to her.
The tension in Aria’s body grew as he approached, her pulse quickening with both excitement and fear.
She wasn’t ready to face him yet—not with the way she had been feeling.
"Hey, darling," Draco greeted her with a smile, sliding onto the bench beside her.
Without hesitation, he wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek.
Aria's heart skipped a beat, but she remained stiff in his embrace.
He pulled back slightly, his brow furrowing as he noticed her paleness.
"You’re really pale, Aria," he said, concern evident in his voice. "Are you alright? You weren’t like this before the holidays."
Aria swallowed hard, trying to suppress the wave of anxiety that washed over her.
