Screams can be heard as I enter the castle. High above in Akio's tower I find an angel restrained as Akio tortures him. His wings, or rather what remained of them, were singed a blackened by fire. Blood pooled beneath him.
Akio stood over him, his mouth set in a grim frown. "Why won't you tell me...?" He asked the angel as I entered the room.
The angel remained silent, his head down, lips silently speaking a prayer.
"What are you trying to torture out of him?" I ask.
He turns, finally looking at me, "just the passage to heaven. Angels possess a piece of heaven within themselves, thus they are able to return to heaven via a portal they create themselves. I want him to open one for me."
"Do you think we are ready to enter heaven at this point?"
He considers this for a moment before saying, "no, I don't believe we are. But I want to know if it is a possibility."
The angel made a choking noise that soon turned to laughter. He smiled at Akio. "A demon wants to touch heaven, does he?" Light shone through the angel's eyes and mouth, so he turned into a blinding light. "Then I shall bring heavens light down on you!"
"Kira, get back!" Akio threw his arm in front of me. I ducked below it and launched myself at the angel. Its light burning my body as I came closer to him.
I acted fast, quickly summoning my blade and slicing the angel in a diagonal arc, sending blood splattering up. The light faded and the angel gaped up at me as his life slipped away and he slowly turned to ash. His remains scattered until nothing remained.
"You know," Akio said, "he might have been showing us what we wanted. That was indeed a portal..."
"Next time," I tell him, "I'll let him kill you." I turn and leave him smiling.
He laughs, "Good work, Kira."
I feel proud, even at the expense of killing an angel. They are our enemies. We are not good, we are evil. We are the demons of this world, even if our intentions are good we will always be marked as evil.
Thus we fight and we kill to move forward.
