Sunlight crept through the curtains, casting a soft glow across the room. I could feel Aiah’s steady breathing beside me, her warmth radiating through the sheets.

There was something gentle, almost sacred, about this quiet moment after last night. I didn’t want to wake her—not yet.

I slipped out of bed quietly, careful not to disturb her. My mind was set on surprising her with breakfast.

Simple lang, but something that speaks to the mornings we’d shared before. Minsan, it’s the little things that create harmony.

I went to the kitchen, taking out ingredients, just like back in college. The familiar scents filled the air: fried eggs, garlic rice, and our favorite—tuyo.

I couldn’t help but smile, remembering those early mornings when we’d rush to cook something quick before class. Tuyo and garlic rice was always our go-to. Parang magic, really—comfort and nostalgia wrapped up in one.

As I plated everything, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around to see Aiah, rubbing her eyes, looking at me with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

“Matilda…bakit ang aga mo nagising?” she asked, voice still sleepy but with that familiar spark in her eyes.

“Ewan ko, gusto lang kitang i-surprise,” I said, smiling back. “Tsaka, na-miss ko rin ‘to…yung breakfast natin na ganito. Parang bumalik tayo sa college.”

“Talaga ba? Favorite ko pa rin pala natin ‘to, ha,” she replied, chuckling softly. There was that warmth again, the kind you only feel with someone you’ve known for a long time. She stepped closer, looking down at the table, and then up at me.

I felt my heart skip, realizing that some things never change, no matter how many mornings have passed or how life has evolved.

After breakfast, I stood up and gave Aiah a small smile. “Mag-shower lang ako ha,” I said, brushing a hand over her cheek before heading to the bathroom. My mind was already shifting gears—duty mode.

As CEO of Lim Corp’s Philippines branch, I had a full day ahead, starting with a meeting I couldn’t afford to miss.

Once ready, I stepped out of the bathroom in my business attire, formal and composed, completely different from the casual moments we’d just shared.

I caught Aiah looking at me, and couldn’t resist leaning down to press a gentle kiss to her lips. She blushed, her cheeks a warm pink, making it even harder to leave.

“See you later, Aiah,” I whispered. She gave a soft nod, trying to hide her flushed cheeks, and I could see the little smile tugging at her lips.

Arriving at Lim Corp., my secretary met me at the entrance. “Good morning, Ms. Lim. Your British colleagues, Mr. Owen and Ms. Carmine, is already in the conference room,” she informed me. I nodded, heading straight for the room.

Owen and Carmine had been more than colleagues during my time in the UK—they were friends, confidants. Seeing them felt like reconnecting with a part of myself that had stayed in London.

We got right into our meeting, discussing plans and developments, but once the formalities were over, it didn’t take long for Owen to suggest, “Fancy a little stroll around BGC? See what your home base has to offer?”

Carmine laughed, nudging me. “It’s only fair, Matilda. We gave you the grand tour back in the UK; now it’s your turn.”

With a grin, I agreed. “Let’s go! You two are in for a treat.”

Walking through the lively streets of Bonifacio Global City with Owen and Carmine was surreal. The buildings, the people, the atmosphere—it was like I was seeing Manila through their fresh eyes.

We laughed, reminisced, and compared our lives now to when we were just starting out, tackling new challenges as a trio back in London.

It felt good to share this part of my life with them, to let them see the world I called home.

After our little tour around BGC, Owen and Carmine decided to head back to their hotel, knowing they’d be flying back to the UK the next day.

We shared a few final laughs, some quick hugs, and promised to meet again soon. Watching them go, I felt a small pang of nostalgia.

It was always bittersweet saying goodbye to friends who had shared a big part of your journey.

As I got back to my apartment, I instinctively reached for my phone and sent a quick message to Aiah. Hey, okay ka lang? How was your day? I waited for a moment, but there was no response yet.

I hesitated, debating whether or not to go next door to check on her, just to make sure she was okay. But I reminded myself that she might already be asleep or busy with something.

Sighing, I decided to let it be for now. Changing into my cozy red pajamas, I let myself unwind from the day’s events. My thoughts drifted back to Aiah and our quiet morning together, making me smile as I crawled into bed.

As soon as my head hit the pillow, I felt the weight of the day’s excitement settle in, and before I knew it, I was drifting off, lulled by the warmth of familiar memories and the hope of seeing Aiah in the morning.
