As the first light of dawn breaks through the trees, I tighten the straps of my satchel, determination coursing through my veins like wildfire. The morning air is crisp, filled with the scent of pine and earth, but it does little to calm the fluttering in my chest. Today, I'll cross the border into the dragon kingdom, and I won't return without Bakugo.
With a deep breath, I step beyond the familiar comfort of my forest, each step taking me further into unknown territory. The path is treacherous, lined with brambles and shadows that whisper of danger, but I push forward, my mind focused on one thing: finding him.
The closer I get to the dragon kingdom, the more tension hangs in the air. I can feel the shift, the weight of history pressing down on me. I navigate the rocky terrain, my heart pounding with every rustle of leaves or distant call of a creature. They could be watching. I could be walking into a trap.
Finally, I reach the base of the mountain that looms above the dragon kingdom, its dark stone walls cutting into the sky. As I scale the rocky incline, I scan for any sign of life-any hint of the castle that holds him captive. It feels surreal, standing here, knowing Bakugo is so close yet so far away.
After what feels like an eternity, I spot the silhouette of the castle against the backdrop of the rising sun. Its towers jut upward, regal and imposing, and for a moment, I hesitate. Can I truly do this? But then I remember his face-the warmth in his ruby eyes, the promise in his words-and my resolve solidifies.
With one last glance over my shoulder, I slip into the shadows of the castle grounds. The guards stationed at the entrance are vigilant, their eyes scanning the horizon, but I weave my way through the underbrush, keeping low and silent. My heart races as I edge closer, relying on every ounce of stealth I've learned living in the woods.
Once I'm near the castle wall, I hear voices coming from the courtyard. Peering around the corner, I see a group of guards gathered, their laughter echoing off the stone walls. Among them is Bakugo, and my heart stops.
He stands tall, though I can see the tension in his posture, the way his jaw clenches as he exchanges barbs with the guards. He's wearing a dark tunic, his spiky blonde hair catching the light, and the sight of him sends a rush of warmth through me, even as fear grips my throat.
I can't just stand here. I need to get to him.
I creep closer, the adrenaline pumping through me. Just as I'm about to round the corner, a loud shout rings out, and I freeze. "What was that?" one of the guards asks, his tone sharp.
I duck behind a large stone pillar, my heart pounding in my ears as I hold my breath, waiting for them to move on. A moment later, the guards disperse, their laughter fading into the distance. I take a deep breath, willing my trembling legs to move, and edge closer to Bakugo.
"Bakugo," I whisper, my voice barely audible as I step out from the shadows.
His head whips around, eyes widening with surprise and something else-relief? His expression shifts, becoming serious as he takes in the sight of me. "Y/N?" he breathes, disbelief lacing his voice.
I rush to him, my heart racing. "I had to come. I couldn't just leave you here."
He looks around nervously, glancing at the courtyard before stepping closer. "You shouldn't have come. It's too dangerous," he hisses, his voice low but urgent.
"I don't care," I insist, the fire of my determination surging. "I came to get you out of here."
His gaze softens, but then the tension returns as he looks over my shoulder. "They'll notice if we linger. You need to leave before they see you."
