After those words left his wife's lips, Darrell felt the guilt drown him. She looked helpless in his bed as tears fell from her pretty eyes. She was scared.

His face softened and he stepped towards Jazlyn, who jerked back in fear. "I'm sorry, my dear. I didn't mean to scare you."

"I don't think I want to do this anymore," she muttered. When Darrell gasped in shock, she raised her hands. "Right now anyway. I'm sorry."

Darrell softened and eased his way over to her. "That's alright, darling," he hummed, wrapping her in his arms. "We have forever."

She gave a soft moan as he kissed her neck before pulling her deeper into the large bed. Warmth surrounded her. She nuzzled herself into his neck and let out a soft sigh. "I can't wait to spend forever like this."

A knock pounded on the door. Darrell growled and shouted, "The King and Queen are not to be disturbed!"

"It's Finn."

Darrell's stomach dropped. He knew Finn wouldn't disturb him at a time like this unless it was something dire. He released Jazlyn and climbed out of the bed. Jazlyn stood and grabbed a robe, pulling it on and covering herself with it.

Darrell only opened the door enough to just see Finn behind it. "What is it?"

"It's one of our neighboring rulers," Finn said in a low tone. It was senseless since Jazlyn could hear every word. "The Vampire King is asking for an immediate audience with the Lycan King. Peacefully."

Darrell's body tensed. "At this hour on this day? Did you tell him I wouldn't be available."

"He said he never would have come at all if he didn't have a dire need to."

"Shit." Darrell turned towards Jazlyn and walked over towards her. "I have to go handle something. You wait here and-"

"No."

He paused, shocked at her abrupt interruption. "Excuse me?"

"I am the Queen now and I demand I be included in things like this from now on. I am not going to rule this Kingdom alongside you without knowing a single thing about anything that is going on. If it is important for you to know, it is important for me to know as well," she explained, planting her hands on her hips.

She wasn't wrong. His mother was in every battle meeting, court proceeding- not to mention his father had very much thought of her opinion as an important one when it came to those types of things. But his mother was bred and trained for royalty. Jazlyn was not. He wasn't sure that she would even think of situations in a necessary, well-informed manner.

Then he thought that he might be underestimating her a little. "Alright. But for now, stay silent. We'll discuss later about how these situations are to be handled by us together in the future."

Jazlyn nodded. "Allow me to put on a decent dress." She walked over to her closet and slipped on a cozy dress and a pair of slippers. Once she was ready, she snaked her arm into the crook of Darrell's elbow and smiled up at him. "Let's go see what the interruption was all about, shall we?"

Darrell exited the room and marched down the hall. Finn walked alongside him. Are you sure about allowing the Queen in the room?

I have never been more sure of anything in my life, Darrell replied. He wasn't being entirely true, but what was a King that didn't have any faith in his Queen who ruled by his side?

"Who is the Vampire King?" Jazlyn asked.

"The Vampire King, Jarlin Rurik, has been King for years. He rules in the next continent. There are a very few guarded passageways because the entire border is wall off so there is no breech of treaty due to incompetent civilians who don't understand the importance of rules and treaties," Darrell explained. "He murdered my father, but I created the treaty with him anyway. There is too much at stake with the Black Isibisk to worry about war. We may not be extensive allies or friendly continents, but we are peaceful neighbors. There has to be a very important reason he stepped foot in our lands."
