"Mom, dad, you both said I have to do something during the summer and honestly, I think I should go to the city you named me after," Sydney said, knowing she'd have to beg more if she wanted to go. "Aunt Lisa lives there, and I could stay with her for three months." She looked at her parents, who were sitting on the couch in front of hers. "I'd really love to explore mom's hometown."
"Sydney, you are only eighteen years old. You have no permission to go to Australia by yourself. It's a twenty hour plane ride and we don't know what might happen." Her smile quickly vanished when he said that. Sydney looked at her mom in hopes that she'd say something and her mom nodded before speaking.
"Honey, I think we should let her go. we told her she had to do something during the summer and what's better than exploring my hometown?" Her mom paused, expecting a response from Ross. When she didn't get one, she sighed and continued. "Think of this as an educational trip. She will learn so much about Sydney. I know I would love to go to the city I was named after. Sadly, there are no cities named Rachel." She joked. "My sister will take great care of her, I promise."
((a.n.// her parents are rachel and ross from friends))
"Rachel, she's our only daughter. I'd be devastated if something happened to her." Dad said, "But I guess you're right." He sighed and looked at Sydney. "We'll buy you a plane ticket and you'll be good to go, but you have to take a camera with you and take pictures of your trip." Sydney rolled her eyes jokingly.
"Dad, I already thought of that. I think a polaroid would make better memories though," Sydney said and pouted, hoping her dad would agree and buy her a polaroid. She knew she had already asked for a lot when she asked to go on a trip to Australia, but she needed to capture the memories she was going to make during her trip.
"Oh I know," he said. "Those cameras are amazing! I'll buy the plane tickets while you and your mom buy the polaroid." Sydney's dad said, making her run towards him and attack him with a hug. She told her dad she loved him about a million times, then she told her mom and thanked her for convincing her dad.
When Sydney and her mom came back home about four hours later, due to wanting to go shopping after buying the polaroid, her dad was sitting on the couch, excitedly shaking the plane ticket in his hand.
"You leave tomorrow night, so you better start packing now young girl." Ross smiled. "And please, take care. I don't know what I'd do without my little girl." Sydney quickly nodded and ran to her room with about five bags on each arm. She fell into a deep slumber after packing everything she bought and a few other clothes, along with her polaroid.
The next day, time passed slower than ever. She texted her friends all day long, telling them about the beautiful places in Sydney that she couldn't wait to explore. When it was time to leave, she cried. Sydney never cried. She was going to miss her parents so much even though she didn't want to admit it. She said her I love you's and goodbye's and soon enough, she was on a plane to Sydney, Australia
