I awake early on my first full class day. Looking around the dormitory, everyone else is still asleep. I get dressed, and sneak away into the common room, being sure not to wake anyone. The common room is quiet, lit through the candles, I sit and read one of my text books on herbology. Herbology wasn't my strongest subject. A girl walks up to me, with her text book. I look up, to see her friendly smile. "Morning, I'm Hermoine Granger, nice to meet you" she sits beside me. I notice we have the same textbook. "Do you also have Herbology today, may I walk with you?" I ask, still unsure on where everything is. Hermoine nods, as we sit and study quietly in the early hours. We talk to each other, as we then procede to walk to our classroom. We attend a pretty standard back to learning lessons. During our morning break, I go with Hermoine, and meet more fellow students, within my house. I adjust my red and gold tie. It still feels too weird, so much so that I excuse myself from the group. "I'll see you guys at lunch" I assure, as I walk off towards my next class. The one I am more nervous about attending. I feel like there's been eyes on me all morning.
I walk through all the grand empty corridors, my footsteps echoes. As I am walking towards my next class, I try to keep calm. Feeling like I am having a minor panic attack. As I turn the corner, the three slytherin boys are stood there. I politely smile, as I try not to stare, walking past them briefly. Mattheo smirks, "well look here" he taunts walking towards me. The boys surround me menacingly. I freeze, before looking down. "I'm just trying to get to my potions class" I try to step past them, but the push my book out my hand, teasing me. I laugh, and this takes the boys aback. I mutter under my breath, as I find strength and walk past them, making my way towards the potions classroom.
I walk into the potions classroom. It is familiarly dark. It makes me feel at ease, I find a desk to sit at, thats in the middle of the classroom. Other students ferry into the classroom, some I recognise from my common room, others from my break, like Luna and unfortunately Draco. There's a low chatter, that immediately becomes quiet as the door slams open, and all the shutters on the windows, magically shuts. Professor Snape walks in, with a strong presence, standing before the classroom at his potions desk. "Turn to page 287" he orders, and proceeds to read the title, "Felix Felicis, follow the instructions" he orders as he sits at his desk, reading a book, leaving everyone to figure it out. Everyone gathers the needed ingredients, and makes a start. I take a moment to look at the book, while everyone get's there head stuck in. I purposely work slowly, and just then a smug Draco, takes his potion up to the desk. "Well done Draco" Professor Snape stands up, taking the potion, pointing to Neville to come and try the potion. Neville nervously steps up, and reluctantly tries the potion. It's successful, and he feels very lucky. "50 points for slytherin, class dismissed" Everyone leaves the classroom promptly, as I close up my books slowly. The classroom is empty, and I stand up, getting ready to leave.
"How's your first morning going?" The dead but caring tone of voice carries through the air to me. I look up making eye contact. "I've made friends, and I'm learning." I keep it vague. "No one knows" I interject, as I walk out of the classroom, a little surprised by the interest and care. I walk down to the great hall for lunch, meeting back up with Hermoine at the table. "How was your lesson?" She asks intrigued. "I ran into the slytherin boys on my way there" I frown. "But my lesson was fine, potions" "Ah with the strictest teacher here" I laugh at Hermoine's comment. Before realising my reaction. "Oh I'm sorry, yeah he was a mean teacher" I try to fit in, praying on the inside that I didn't create an suspicion. I use my leglimans skills, to confirm that my cover is fine. We eat our lunch, and go sit in the courtyard for the rest of the break.
Students chatter about and hang about, both in the courtyard, corridors and common rooms. I look around, seeing Draco stood with his eyes on me. I make eye contact with him, before turning to Hermoine, "Where's the defence against the dark arts classroom?" She tells me the directions, and I set off, tring to remember her directions. I come by Albus Dumbledore's office and I knock on the door, entering after being invited, unaware that I was being watched. Once inside the headmaster's office, I see Dumbledore sat at his desk. "I'm sorry to disturb sir." "No no, Miss Spinner, it's quite okay, whats wrong?" He interrupts. "I thought starting here, would be easier, but I'm struggling" I confide, "I hate hiding who my family is" I continue, watching Albus's face, he looks empathetic to me. "My office door, is always open, I understand that it's hard for you, but you know it's for your safety though" I nod in agreement with him. "Thank you, Professor Dumbledore" I smile, grateful for the listening ear. I step out of his office, to hear a tusk, tusk, tusk.... I freeze on the spot.
