Marina went on the main deck with eagerness and show a deserted island, but looks could be deceiving sometimes. She has her bow and quiver of arrows on her back. Eustace has to be a little more careful around her.
"I doubt they stopped here my lease," said a sailor on another boat. "There's not a man in sight!"
"Once we hit the shore, talk you men and search for food and water." Caspian and Edmund both rowed together. Nora and Lucy were stirring with Marina nervously. "The five of us will go and look for clues."
"Hang on! Do you mean the six of us?" asked a voice.
Everyone stopped rowing and turned to look at Eustace. "Come on, please. Don't send me back to the rat!"
"I heard that!" yelled Reepicheep.
"Big ears," murmured Eustace, rolling his eyes.
"I heard that too!" yelled Reepicheep.
Everyone laughed as they hit the shores. Marina was amused by Eustace's bickering with the noble Mouse. Nora snickered, amusement shining in her eyes. While Caspian, Edmund, and Lucy went off to have a quick look around while Nora and Marina helped search for some resources with the members of the crew. It didn't take long for Eustace to sneak off towards a valley full of golden treasure. He soon found a golden armband and put it on his forearm eagerly as he continued lurking through the treasure. But he soon began to feel very sleepy, and he soon fell asleep on the treasury.
As Eustace slept with an unknown enchanted golden arm-ring with a carving of a little hammer with a diamond above it like a star. He was sleeping in a rocky gorge with golden riches and treasures; along with a creepy skeleton.
But he didn't notice that green mist started to surround him. He shivered in pain as gold scales spread all over his body. His chest deepened a little and then more as scutes covered it. A tail burst from the base of his spine and continued to lengthen until it was a full meter long. His arms and legs thickened with muscle, the knee joints reversing themselves and forced him to all fours. His hands and feet became paws; the two inner fingers joined leaving with three fingers and a thumb per hand. Same thing happened to his feet, except he had three.
Eustace's toenails and fingernails lengthened into curved claws. He grew larger in length and hight as his clothes were reduced into shreds. Bat-like wings grew from his shoulder blades, his neck and torso lengthened as his face pushed out into a muzzle. His teeth sharpened while his tongue narrowed and forked like a snake.
Eustace woke up and saw the curved horns pushed out of each side of his skull, hair receding and replaced by hard gold scales. Amber spikes ran down his back, ending at the tip of his tail. His ears became three spine fans, the eyes moving slightly to the sides, narrowing into slits and turning blue.
"Oh no." Eustace was horrified as he gotten up on his new talons. "What have I done?"
In spite of the pain, his first feeling was relief. There was nothing to be afraid of anymore. He was a terror himself now nothing in the world but a knight would dare to attack him. He could even fight against Caspian and Edmund.
But the moment he thought this he realized that he didn't want to. He wanted to have friends. He wanted to get back to the people, to speak, laugh, and share things. He realized that he was a monster that cut off the whole human race. An appalling loneliness came over him. He began to see that the others hadn't been friends at all. He wonder if he had been a nicer person than he knew. He wants to hear their voices. He would been grateful to hear a kind word from his cousins and Reepicheep.
"Well, I better tell my family and friends about this," said Eustace to himself.
The Dragon jumped into the air and started flying towards the Dawn Treader."What food did you find?" said Caspian, looking into the baskets.
Marina did a bit of archery and hunted fish in a nearby river and Nora hunted down non-Talking birds, hares, and rabbits. They both came back with a basket filled with fish and Estrella carried a basket filled with their hunted rabbits and hares. She had earlier wrote in her journal about her archery skills, their hunting efforts, and their foundings. They put the baskets in the rowboats.
"It's volcanic your Majesty — not much grows," said Rynelf.
Marina and Nora looked around with worried expressions. "Where's Eustace?" She turned to look at Caspian and the others.
"I believe he's out NOT helping us load the boats," said Reepicheep, annoyed.
"I'll go and find him." Edmund began to walk away.
"I'll come with you," said Caspian nervously.
"I'll come along." Nora started following the two brothers back into the deserted, rocky terrain.
It didn't take long for them to find glittering treasure and jewelry. They climbed down into the pit. When Edmund's foot slipped, Caspian grabbed hold of his arm to balance him. The three of them began to explore. The wandered around till Edmund saw a brown shoe on the ground.
"Eustace!" Edmund quickly picked it up.
"Eustace!" yelled Nora.
The shoe was smoldering a bit. A little way of the rest of his clothes lay in a pile. They walked over and examined them. Edmund picked up his journal.
"Oh, cousin," said Edmund sorrowfully.
"I am so sorry." Caspian placed a gentle hand on his back. Nora thought she saw tears glistening in his eyes.
"He was just a boy," said Nora sadly.
"I never should have left him!" said Edmund. He close to his tears. "What would happen to him?"
"In this place? Anything. But he wasn't the first." Caspian looked sorrowfully at the skeleton. "It's Lord Octesian."
"We should find his—" But he turned to look at Edmund had already found it. "—sword."
The boys and girl began to walk back to the ship. Edmund ran towards the rowboat with the burned clothes. But Nora's ears pricked up at the sound of rough breathing and hard flapping wings behind them.
"Edmund! Nora!" yelled Caspian.
Edmund turned around and saw a dragon grabbed him whilst trying to catch Nora too. But Nora had managed to jump out of the way from the dragon in time.
"Edmund!" cried out Nora.
Nora could have sworn she heard Lucy's voice on the wind. "Edmund!"
"Lucy!" yelled Edmund.
Nora watched as the dragon flew all over the island, through a huge smoky valley. Edmund's eyes widened when they saw letters carved onto the ground reading: I AM EUSTACE.
"You have GOT to be joking!" Edmund looked at the Dragon-changed Eustace.
