Stanford Pines had indeed experienced it before that all the candles in his meditation room would go out at once. It had happened multiple times when Bill at times did not want to communicate with Ford, so he had denied him access. With the oracle that had never ever happened before. Only evil beings were able to do that. And Bill wasn't there to disturb his meditation so there must have been another reason. Ford looked around the now dark room, his eyes only slowly adjusting to the darkness. He couldnt make out a lot. There was a slight green shimmer on one wall but it vanished after Ford had blinked so he brushed it off as his eyes making stuff up in the dark. Ford got up and relit the candles, then sat down again.
He waited for some time with his eyes open, just watching and breathing. When after five minutes nothing happened, he closed his eyes and began meditating. After some time of just breathing and relaxing he reached the right state in his mind to call out to the oracle. This could take some time and needed a lot of concentration but Ford was willing to wait all night if he had to. Over the years he had become better and better so contacting the oracle mostly worked for him after just a few tries. This time was different though, Ford could feel it. His mind felt blocked and kind of foggy. He called out for the oracle in his mind multiple times. It is hard to describe how the connection between the two normally worked. Ford called out and he could feel his thoughts going out of his brain and reaching into other dimensions. Then, after some time the oracle would answer and sometimes even show themselves in Fords mind. In the past they have had long, outgoing conversations. This time when Ford called out, he felt the call echoing in his head. It felt blocked. He sat there for hours, going deeper into the meditation state but whatever he tried, he could not get out of the fog in his mind.
When Ford realized that there was no success for him tonight he opened his eyes and sat in complete darkness. He got up, fiddled for the light switch and turned the lights on. The candles had not been blown out by anything like before, they had completely burned out. It had to be at least around mid day by this time. Even on Fords first try it had not taken him this long to reach the oracle. Something was very wrong.
Bill had a very hard time falling asleep. His mind was racing. The rope around his wrist began to become oncomfortable. He had of course tried to get it off, but when he had use the other hand to touch the rope he couldn't reach it. Not that his arm wasnt long enough, no there was a small barrier between it. Bill had no clue how that worked, but after some tries of getting it off or wriggling out of it, he only grew more exhausted and finally gave up.
Laying there made his thoughts wander around. He had never been in a place this quiet before, just alone with his thoughts. Of course, Bill has had thoughts in his energy form. But there he could controll them. If they were unwanted, he could just make them stop, like switching a light switch. Now that did not work and it terriefied him. His thoughts were like a being for itself, something that lived in his mind that told him things. Horrible things. He thought about his time in the theraprism, Mary, his old friends, who after he had been killed had all left him behind. They probably didn't even know that he was still alive. It all stung. He hadn't realized that even the brain hated its owner and that thoughts could give one physical pain. While it was torturing Bill, it also fascinated him. The human body was disgusting but also very interesting and Bill wanted to learn more about that.
Laying there in the darkness, he also began thinking about Eclydia, his home dimesnion. The 2d world. That gave him even more pain and soon his fascination disappeared. He tought about his childhood, his parents. Wait- His parents? He tried to remember them. Everything was blurred. He tired remembering their colors, their eyes, their features. He couldnt. He started shaking. He couldnt even remember his own parents in this human mind. All his memories one after another, began falling away. He was afraid of the time when he would forget them completely. He still remembered his mothers voice. How she had sung to him when Bill felt down. He remembered every word, every tone. He began quetly humming to himself.
Rockabye BillyPlease don't you cryIt's not your faultYou have that strange eyeStay safe with MommyYou'll never fallAnd we'll always love youSharp angles and all
It eased his mind and he began to feel tired. His last thougth before falling asleep was that he now had two eyes. Would she still have loved him in this body?
He again had a weird dream. He was alone in a room. Bill did not know the place he was in. It was dark and cold. But he sensed that somebody or something was there with him. An evil thing. It fed off of him. Bill tried to get up, to move, to defend himself but he felt his strength vanishing and his powers getting weaker and weaker. He got so weak that he just curled up into a ball and lay there weeping, in that cold, empty room with the beast that bled him dry.
He awoke with a start when somebody was shacking him violently.
„WAKE UP DUDE!", Dipper screamed in his ear. Bill sat up straight and looked around confused. The first rays of sunshine had made their way into the room. It was an early morning so the air in the room was slightly cold. He took a deep breath, relieved that he wasn't in that place anymore. Wait, what place?, he asked himself. He had already forgotten his dream and only really remembered the despair he had felt.
He looked over at Dipper who was visibly pissed. He had dark circles under his eyes.
"What's wrong?", Bill asked.
"What's wrong?! You roll around in your bed all night, screaming 'no, please, leave me alone!', waking Mabel and me up every ten minutes or so and don't even notice it? Stop that!", Dipper answered. While he is whispering to not wake up the others (even though they probably were awake already) his tone was sharp and clear. Sometimes spit hit Bills face but he was too shocked to do anything about it.
"Dipper, stop being so mean!", Mabel interrupts. "He probably had a bad dream again. You have them all the time too!"
"No I don't!", Dipper didn't like admitting this in front of Bill but he often had nightmares involving Weirdmageddon. Mabel often told him that he would scream in his sleep too.
Mabel let it go and asked Bill about his dream. Bill didn't meet their eyes and just told them that he again didn't remember. Mabel nodded, she really was a bit worried about the boy.
"All right. Just try to not scream and beg again okay? Here are other people who would like to sleep too!", Dipper said, in a bit friendlier tone. The twins went back to bed and shortly after fell asleep.
Bill couldn't sleep anymore. Not only was he now fully awake but he tried to remember his dream. He knew that it had been real and that it was very important to know what was doing that to him. As hard as he tried, he could not remember. He sat up in his bed and just watched the twins snore. He had done so very often in his demon form but this was different. Before, Bill has always had an evil plan in his mind and often just waited for the right moment to interrupt their dreams. Now it was quiet and peaceful. The sun light lit up the room beautifully and outside Bill could hear the first birds chirping. It was calming. He took another deep breath and just sat there, watching, taking in all the new experiences. Bill had heard birds before, of course but he had never really listened to their melody. All were so different but so beautiful on their own. He had never looked at the sun and appreciated it this much. Never in his long life before did he have to breath to survive and he had found it annoying at first but smelling and taking a deep breath now was the best thing he could do. For the first time since being a human he enjoyed it. He would never admit that to anyone, but he really did.
While he just sat there, his mind finally quiet, he fell asleep too and didn't even notice it. This time without any bad dreams.
