Fool In Love

Koryn blew out a long exaggerated breath as she looked down at the stick in her hand. A wave of nerves swept over her as she waited impatiently for the results. She had already taken the test once before but she wasn't satisfied with what she saw. She decided to take it again, hoping for a different answer. Maybe the test was damaged. Maybe it was too cheap to detect real results since she did purchase it from her local dollar tree. At one point she thought it could have been old but that theory was thrown out when she checked the date on the box.

" What does it say?" Lexi said eagerly.

" I don't know. It's hard to tell. It's looking kind of faint."

"Well, that doesn't matter. Faint or not, if you see two lines you're definitely pregnant" Lexi replied.

Koryn silently stared off into space as she zeroed in on her own thoughts. She couldn't bring a baby into this world with the type of lifestyle she lived. She always thought that by the time she ever got pregnant she'd at least have her shit together. She wanted to own her own business, settle down and become somebody's wife. Instead she was a twenty three year old video vixen who could barely make ends meet. She had a condo she could hardly pay for and the car she had been stunting in wasn't officially hers either. Well, not until she was done paying on it that is. Now, she was pregnant by someone else's man.

"How the hell did I let something like this happen?" She thought to herself.

Koryn closed the cap to the test and sat it on the counter before washing her hands. When she was done she dried them with a napkin and tossed it into the trash along with the box and instruction sheet. The entire time Lexi was still on speaker going on and on about how excited she was to be an auntie. Koryn grabbed her phone off of the stand, flicked the light switch, and exited the bathroom, rolling her eyes as she ambled down the hallway. Once she made it to her room she fell back on to her bed and stared up at the ceiling. Lexi was so enthralled in the one sided conversation that she hadn't seemed to notice Koryn's silence.

" Sooo, I guess congratulations are in order, huh?" Lexi said in a questioning tone, because she wasn't sure how her girl was taking the news.

Koryn sighed " I don't know how to feel about this, Lex. He's not even speaking to me right now. I may have fucked this one up. It could really be over. Then what?"

" Shit, look at the bright side and snap out of this little pity party you're having. Girl, this ain't no regular joe from around the way. you're having a professional athlete's baby. If that's not a reason to celebrate then I don't know what is. Bitch you won!" she exclaimed. " You play this right, and you'll never have to work again."

Koryn rolled her eyes at the revelation. However Lexi still managed to get a small smile out of her. Koryn was just about to respond when she heard what sounded like a knock at her door. She lifted up on her elbows as she listened in closely, making sure she wasn't tripping.When she heard them again she stood to her feet.

" What happened? Why did you get all quiet?" Lexi asked curiously.

" Girl, I'll call y'all back. Someone's at my door"

" Ok.... Wait" Lexi said hastily "You're still gonna make it to the video shoot later?"

" I don't know. I'm not really in the mood anymore. If I change my mind I'll let you know, "she replied. They said their goodbyes and disconnected the call.

Koryn made her way to the door and peeked through the hole. Her stomach dropped and her heart raced when she noticed him standing there looking so damn good. Suddenly she felt a range of emotions flowing through her. She was happy he'd finally stopped by but was upset that he had been ignoring her all this time. It was too late for her to rationalize how she was feeling, so the devil on her shoulder won the battle causing her to go into full on bitch mode. She swiftly snatched the door open, crossing her arms over her chest. She shifted her weight to one leg as she glared at him through squinted eyes.
