"Kook, come on,"

Jimin Hyung ushered for me to go to my room.

The moment, Dad announced the news, it struck me hard like a bombshell falling upon my ears, leaving me in a state of shock. I felt my body go numb, paralyzed by incredulity, as I stared blankly into the void. My eyes, which were bright and dancing with joy alongside my brothers, a while ago, were now overshadowed by a heavy gloom, diminishing their brightness and hope, causing them to even shrink into the appearance.

I felt the hands reach out to my shoulders, where I had been spotted, sitting nonplussed on the couch; the opened palms seated upon both sides of mine brought a sense of brief alleviation to my body; yet failed to provide me sufficient comfort.

"Put your mind at ease, kiddo. Mum will be alright," Jimin Hyung whispered in his soothing tone, gently rubbing my back.

I remained silent. In all honesty, I didn' even know what to say or how to react, anymore. Although I was aware, that I wasn't the only one, who had been hit the hardest by the horrifying news, so were my brothers.

They're good at pretense, concealing their emotions, at least when around me. Conversely, I've never been taught to hide my emotions, I've invariably been frank and candid with my family. However, now it made me wonder if I had not been as strong as them, who couldn't even harbor a semblance of optimism while they appeared resilient enough to solace both themselves and me.

Hobi Hyung entered the living room. Jin Hyung and Dad had left for some work, once reassuring me that "Everything would be alright", while Namjoon Hyung went back to his books. I also saw Taehyung returning from the kitchen too; an unhappiness echoing upon his face.

"Hyung, you need to comfort these two. I'm outta the words,"

Jimin Hyung left the room after sharing his reference with me and Taehyung.

"Tae and Kook," Hobi Hyung called out, as he came to sit ahead of me, "Ah, I know it sounds distressing; it does to us, too, but then again, rather than succumbing to sorrow, we should take care of Mom. It has just been the start of her IVth grade cancer, she. . ." His voice faltered, as he stared at me, pupils quivering slightly when spoke further, "She'll be alright,"

Hobi Hyung outta habit, messed with my hair, playfully before standing up to join Taehyung. It was then that Mom's voice captured our attention as she made her way into the living room and settled herself on the couch next to Taehyung.

"Hobi, wait --" Mom called out.

"Gotta touch base Melody. See ya at night, Mom," With a shout, I heard him promptly exit the gate.

Mom let out a sigh, muttering something incoherently, "How these kids never listen to her". When her pupils landed over me, a smile painted her pale lips, "Koo, you too, come here,"
