Kaneki's P.O.V
I was already half way through my way to Anteiku - the cafe I work in. For some reason I couldn't stop thinking about her.
'Is she ok?'
'She needs to see a doctor'
'Why did they attack her?'
'Why did she transfer now?'
'Does she live by herself?'
'Is she fine like that?'
I've never thought so much about a girl. And with all these thoughts I felt something wasn't right. I decided to go check on her so I turned back and started running.
Ten minutes later I was in front of her house. I heard voices. My first thought was that they are her parents. Then I heard laughing and sound of stuff breaking.
I quickly kicked down the door. I hoped they weren't ghouls but just regular thieves 'Please don't be ghouls. Please be fine' I thought as I ran in the direction of the sound.
I found myself in her living room. In front of me was a man, holding (y/n) by her throat. Behind him three more people were standing, laughing. One of them was kicking a chair into the mirror. (Y/n) looked like she was going to die.
I noticed something else on the floor. A small - what I thought was - dead body of a little girl.
All of my thoughts vanished and all I was thinking about was saving her. My eye turned black and red. Fortunately, I was fast enough and kicked the one holding her in the stomach before he realized what was going on. He let go of her and she fell on the floor.
Her eyes were half closed. She wasn't dead. I sighed in relief. I still had to take care of her attackers.
The one I kicked was holding his stomach, growling at me.
''You little bastard, how dare you!'' He growled.
I smirked ''No one, and I mean no one, can mess with my friends'' I said as I slowly approached him. My kagune came out, ready to stab him.
The other three were sitting, staring at me in fear. I jumped and landed right in front of them, ready for killing.
They turned human, trembling as they ran away. I turned back to the other one. He was slowly approaching (y/n). I jumped on him from behind and stabbed him then twisted his hand to breaking.
''I can't forgive you for attacking (y/n). Death is the only thing you deserve'' I said. I wondered, why? We weren't close or anything. Yet I couldn't stop and leave. I finished him off then went to leave the body in a dark alleyway near her house.
When I went back I saw (y/n) trying to get up. She was screaming a name. Hatori. I guessed it was the little girl's name. Probably her sister.
I ran to the little girl and noticed she was still breathing. I quickly took my phone out and dialed 911. Ten minutes later an ambulance took us to the hospital.
Reader's P.O.V
At first all I was thinking about was Hatori. She could die. Then I would be left all alone. I didn't even notice who was my savior.
When I got out of the ambulance he helped me walk. Then I saw it - white hair and grey eyes - it was him again.
'Kaneki... why? You saved me from your own kind.. but why? How did you know?' I thought to myself while we were going upstairs.
Hatori was taken somewhere and no one told us where. I could only wait. A doctor came to me and treated my hurt leg. After that we were left alone in the hall.
Kaneki sighed ''I have work so I have to go. You have to wait here until they tell what happens to your sister. Maybe I'll come visit you later'' he said as he slowly stood up and walked away.
I quietly mumbled a thank you, but guessed he didn't hear me. I sat in a corner, waiting.
I was replaying the events from the day in my head and for some reason started thinking about Kaneki. Soon I fell asleep again.

I felt someone shake my arm and I woke up. I saw the doctor who was with Hatori.
''Your sister's condition is critical. She might not be able to survive the night. I'm sorry'' he said with no expression on his face.
I felt tears fall down my eyes. ''Isn't there anything else you can do? Can't you help her? It's your job god dammit!'' I shoouted. The little people walking around were staring at me.
''There is nothing else we can do. You should go home Miss (L/N)'' he said as he waked into a room.
I sat there, crying. I was alone after all. Everyone I cared about was gone. 'Not everyone' I thought for a moment but quickly stopped thinking about my white haired savior.
A few minutes later I heard foot steps coming at my direction. I wiped my tears away and stood up. Then I saw it was just Kaneki. 'He did promise he would come' I remembered.
''Hey'' he said. I tried not to cry but couldn't hold it in. Slowly the tears came out.
I felt someone's hands wrap around my waist. It was Kaneki. I started crying even more. I didn't know how long it has been but it felt quite long.
He let go of me. ''I have to go now. You should go home too'' he said as he turned away and started slowly walking away.
I caught him by the shirt. ''Kaneki... can you stay with me?'' I said through quiet sobs.
He sighed and turned towards me. Surprisingly he nodded.
I found myself sitting on the floor, his hands wrapped around me. He was warm.
''You should get some sleep, (y/n)'' he said quietly.
I nodded. ''Thank you' I said, a little above a whisper, as I closed my eyes.
