The ten minutes left were finally over. I heard the bell ring and everyone got up, getting ready to go out.
I was stuffing the papers of drawings and recklessly written notes in my bag when Kaneki came next to me.
He caught my hand and we left together. A few people were whistling and whispering stuff but both Kaneki and me gave them a death glare so they stopped.
We were out of the school. The rain had gotten pretty strong.
''Do you have an umbrella or something?'' he asked.
''Nope. I don't use these'' I said, slightly smiling at him.
''I see. Then you're fine with the rain, right?'' He asked. I nodded. ''Let's go then. It's not that far from here'' he said.
The rest of the time we walked in silence. Kaneki didn't let go of my hand and for some reason I didn't mind. I actually liked it.
We finally reached the cafe. We were both soaked with water from the rain. It just wouldn't stop.
When we got in a girl with short brown hair and cheerful smile ran to us.
''Onii-chan!!'' She said as sbe laughed. She looked like my sister and reminded me of her.
Kaneki hugged her and then let her go.
''Onii-chan will you teach me how to read?'' she asked.
''Sure. But later'' he andwered and smiled at her.
Then she turned her head at me. ''Who are you?'' She asked, glaring at me. I just sat there confused. I didn't know he really had a sister.
''Hinami-chan, this is (y/n), a friend from school. (Y/n), this is Hinami. She is like me'' he calmly said, introducing us.
''Onii-chan is she a ghoul?'' she asked.
I stood there, not saying anything. Kaneki looked at me.
"N-no, I'm just human. Nice to meet you, Hinami-chan. You remind me of my little sister a lot. You two would make great friends'' I said as I smiled at her.
She smiled back and went to a room, running.
''Well, this is where I work. Everyone here is a nice person. You will meet the others too. Now, I should get to work. You can sit somewhere and I'll get you something'' he said. With that he went into a room. I sat down on a table in the corner near the window.
I was playing on my phone when I felt someone coming to me. I looked up. It was a girl with purple-blue hair with the uniform of the cafe.
''What would you like to drink?'' she asked.
''Hmm, I'll have coffee. Without sugar or anything. Just coffee.'' I said.
She looked at me as if there was something wrong.
"Alright, your order will be here in a minute'' she smiled as she walked away.
I saw her talk to Kaneki about something. A few minutes later they walked to me.
''(Y/n), this is Touka. A good friend of mine. Touka-chan, this is (y/n)'' he said and smiled at me again.
''Nice to meet you'' she said kind of coldly. I smiled at her and nodded. She walked away, leaving me and Kaneki alone.
''She is also a nice person. Over there are Nishiki and the owner of the shop'' he said as he sat down next to me ''Don't tell anyone, but we all are ghouls. I trust you, (y/n).''
''That's nice'' I said looking down. I knew I was blushing. He was way too close. Something felt different.
''Is something wrong?'' He asked.
''N-no, I'm fine. Your friends all seem like nice people. I would love to get to know them all better'' I said.
He nodded and smiled ''And I remember you ordered a coffee. I'll bring it in a minute'' he said.
He came back with two cups in his hands. ''May I join you?'' He asked
''S-sure'' I said.
''You're blushing'' he said as he smiled again.
''N-no, I'm not! It must be the cold I had some time ago'' I sakd and faked coughing as I looked down. He laughed.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes.
"Hey, what happened to you before, you know, your past. Why were they chasing you?'' He suddenly asked.
I looked up.
''You don't have to answer if you don't want to, you know?'' He quickly said.
''It's fine'' I said and looked at my half empty cup ''Seven years ago our mother was murdered by these ghouls. Me, Hatori and our father managed to run away. But after that he couldn't recover. He started drinking. A year later he lost his job. The ghouls never came back after that. Due to our father being drunk all the time I had to work part time. He put the blame on me and Hatori. According to him it was our fault. Since I was the older one he would beat me and abuse me. Later on I found out that he started taking drugs. He would always beg for money so he could buy them. But whenever I didn't have the money he would shove me in mirrors, furniture, windows and walls and beat me even more. Hatori was always scared and there were times he tried to hurt her too but I always protected her. Because of the bruises and scars I had in every school I went to they would bully me, laugh at me and use me as their toy for entertainment'' I said. He was looking at me. There was sadness in his eyes. I sighed. I could feel the small tear drops forming in the corners of my eyes. Ignoring them, I continued. "Later on our father's addiction killed him. His friends and previous co-workers knew about the situation and helped us with whatever they could. That's how we managed to survive for so long. It was just us two alone. Hatori was home schooled by me'' I couldn't hold it in anymore. I felt the tears fall. Kaneki moved on the free spot next to me ''And then they tried to take her. Apparently they finally found us. If I hadn't met you she would be dead. I don't care about me but she needs to survive'' at this point I was already sobbing. He slowly hugged me. He was the first person I have talked to about my past.
''It's okay'' he whispered. ''I'm here for you'' he said. He hugged me tighter as he lightly brushed my silky (h/c) hair with his hand. ''Feel free to cry. I'll be here''
''Thank... you.. Ka..neki'' I said through sobs. We stayed like that for some time until a voice almost growled from behind.
''Kaneki! Stop slacking off! We have clients'' the person said. I looked up. It was Touka-chan.
''Fine. I'm coming. You can go now'' he growled at her.
She threw a death glare at me and walked away.
''(Y/n), I have to get to work now'' he said as he slowly let go of the hug. It was warm. I wanted to stay like this forever.
''Oh.. I'll go home to Hatori then'' I said.
He nodded "Will you be fine on your own?''
''I will. Don't worry'' I said. I got up and put on my jacket. The rain had almost stopped.
''Alright. I'll see you tomorrow then''he said. He walked me to the door and slightly smiled ''Be careful and get home in one piece''
I smiled and nodded. I walked out into the cold evening.
