His shoulders were slumped and his eyes were closed. Then I felt his heart. It didn't beat. My eyes started to tear up. "No, th...this i...is n-nnot happening. No, this is not happening. NO THIS IS NOT HAPPENING TO ASHITAKA! ASHITAKA! ASHITAKA! ASHITAKA! ASHITAKA! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! DON'T DIE! ASHITAKA! I SAID TO NOT DIE! HOW COULD YOU DIE!?" I was crying. The lions were backing away and the villagers were crowding around Ashitaka and me. "ASHITAKA, WHY DID YOU DIE! WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME?!" I was sobbing my heart out. The villagers hung their heads. My brothers and Yakul made their way up to the mountain and saw what happened. My brothers hung their heads but Yakul came and sniffed Ashitaka's body. He let out a cry of anguish. "Nononononono...ASHITAKA! You're leaving me! WHY! ASHITAKA! WHY?!"
The villagers were staring at me but I didn't care. The only human who I had respected had died. Now he was gone. Forever.
