Dark Magic
We spilt apart and Nora and I make our way to Witchcraft we slip into our seats from yesterday and wait for Mrs. Thistle to show up. It would probably take her a minute because she still had to take care of Makenzie. The bell rang and everybody continued to wait.
"I can't believe she knocked out Makenzie." Some girl whispered to her friend.
"No what I can't believe is that Makenzie used that much dark magic does she not know the consequences." Another girl whispered.
I just sat there, my heart still racing from the intensity of the duel, as the whispers around me grew louder. Some students were in shock at how I had won, while others seemed more concerned with the dark magic that Makenzie had used. Dark magic is an affront to nature—something that most witches know better than to meddle with unless they have a death wish. But with my power and abilities, I can wield it without consequence. They, however, risk becoming corrupted by the darkness, spiraling into what is known as a Morgana Witch. It's a sad, twisted fate, one that leads to a life consumed by evil and the loss of one's soul.
As I sat there, the murmur of voices around me filled the classroom, students leaning into each other, their faces a mixture of fear and curiosity. The air was thick with tension, and it seemed like everyone had something to say about what had just transpired. Some were awed by my strength, while others were clearly unsettled by the raw power that had been on display.
Just then, Mrs. Thistle strode into the room, her presence commanding immediate attention. The door swung shut behind her with a resounding thud, and she scanned the room with a stern gaze.
"Everybody quiet now!" she yelled, her voice cutting through the noise like a knife. The room fell silent instantly.
Damn, I didn't think sweet Mrs. Thistle had it in her to yell like that. Usually, she was the calm, nurturing type, always guiding us with a gentle hand. But today, she looked different—more serious, as if the events of the day had shaken even her.
"We are changing the lesson for the day," she declared, snapping her fingers. The whiteboard at the front of the classroom glowed as new words appeared, written in a sharp, precise script: -The Dangers and Consequences of Dark Magic-.
"Mrs. Thistle, I thought we were working more on elemental magic?" a girl from the back of the class asked, her voice tinged with confusion.
Mrs. Thistle turned to face the girl, her expression unreadable. "We were," she acknowledged. "But due to the events that occurred outside, it's become clear that we need to address a more pressing issue. Today, we're going to learn about dark magic—the risks it poses, the consequences of its use, and the reasons why it is so dangerous."
She paused, letting her words sink in before continuing. "Dark magic is not inherently evil," she began, her tone grave. "However, it is incredibly potent, and with that power comes great responsibility. A witch can use dark magic on occasion—perhaps in a moment of desperation or self-defense—but when a witch uses dark magic excessively, it can corrupt them. The more they use it, the more it consumes them, twisting their mind, their soul, until they are no longer who they once were."
The class was rapt, hanging on her every word. Mrs. Thistle's eyes scanned the room, landing on me for a brief moment before continuing. "Some of you may have heard of the Morgana Witches," she said, her voice dropping to a near whisper. "They are the cautionary tales we tell our young witches—those who allowed dark magic to take over their lives, transforming them into something... dark, something monstrous."
A few students shuddered, and I saw the girl in the back cross herself as if warding off evil. Mrs. Thistle noticed but didn't comment. Instead, she continued, "The path of a Morgana Witch is one of loneliness, despair, and destruction. Their power becomes their curse, and they are driven to seek more and more, until there is nothing left of their original self."
