WellAren't You a Ray of Sunshine

I flop into my chair in English and Sam, Morgan, Nora just look at me. Not one of them saying anything until Morgan finally built up the courage to ask me.

"Sooooo girly what happened this morning why were you late?" She asked looking at me with concern.

"Nothing serous I went on a run and lost track of time and I probably could have made if I did not get back home and shower but there was no way I was coming to school all sweaty like that." I stated and shrugged my shoulder.

"Gotcha so nothing bad so why does it look like your about to murder someone?" Nora asked.

"Damon. And these stupid fucking mystic games I get they want to build school unity but with what they are wanting to do I could speed up the process and burn the school down myself. Its just complete and utter insanity.

"Oh gotcha, I'm sorry." Morgan stated

"Morgan don't be sorry you have done nothing I am just agitated and just ready to go home."

Classes flew by, and so did lunch—thankfully with zero drama. By the time we got to werewolf class, I practically fell into my seat. Damon tried to say something to me, but I didn't even bother responding. I just popped my AirPods in and stared straight ahead. I was exhausted on a bone-deep level.

I honestly couldn't tell you a single thing that happened in that class.

The walk home passed in complete silence. I didn't say a word, and neither did anyone else. When we got to the house, I dropped onto the couch like my body had finally given up. The girls scattered, doing whatever it was they were doing, and I didn't have the energy to care. Time blurred. I stayed right where I was while Sam, Morgan, and Nora talked about school and complained about math like it was a personal enemy.

Eventually, dinner happened. We all moved into the kitchen and started cooking—lasagna. I tried to help, but I was moving like my brain had disconnected from the rest of me. I did the bare minimum and leaned against the counter more than I worked.

Our moms got home not long after, and we all sat down to eat. Conversation stayed light—how school was, who annoyed who, what assignments were coming up. I nodded along and answered when spoken to, but mostly I just pushed food around my plate and waited for it to be over.

After dinner, Sam and Nora left with Sam's mom, and Morgan headed out with hers. The house finally went quiet. My mom cleaned up dinner, and I tried to help, but she shooed me away with a look. I ended up standing in the doorway of the kitchen, watching her rinse plates.

"Want to talk about why you were out running this morning?" she asked casually, rinsing sauce off one of the dishes.

"Not really," I said, shrugging.

She paused and looked over at me. "Seraphina, talk to me."

I sighed. "I've been having nightmares about him."

She didn't hesitate. "Rogue?"

I blinked, surprised she remembered his name. "Yeah. Him. I've been having nightmares about him for the past two nights. Last night I was doing magic in my sleep." I swallowed. "So I went running."

"Oh, my love," she said softly. She set the plate aside and pulled me into a tight hug.

"I don't know what's going on with me," I admitted, resting my head against her shoulder. "I've never been this out of control. I haven't thought about him in a thousand years. Why is he bothering me so much now?"

She ran a hand through my hair, slow and steady. "Seraphina Athena Windward," she said gently, "I named you that for a reason. Seraphina—fiery one. Athena—the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. You are strong, but you are also thoughtful. You don't lose control—you adapt."
