The three of us walked up to the top floor and into Werewolf Studies, taking our seats near the back. The human boy from yesterday was sitting there, staring off into space, lost in his own thoughts. I glanced at him briefly before settling into my seat. The final bell rang, and the teacher walked in, followed closely by the principal, her expression calm but serious. The room fell silent as she scanned the room, her eyes locking onto mine.
"Seraphina Windward!" the principal called out, her voice firm but not unkind.
"Yes, ma'am, that's me," I said, standing up from my seat, feeling the eyes of my classmates on me.
"You got into a fight today at lunch with Kimberly King," the principal stated, her tone leaving no room for argument.
I felt a wave of annoyance mixed with a hint of pride. "It wasn't really a fight. She provoked us and flipped our table. We were just defending ourselves," I explained, keeping my voice steady.
The principal raised an eyebrow but then sighed, a hint of understanding in her eyes. "I understand that tensions can run high, especially between werewolves and witches. However, Seraphina, you can't leave a student knocked out for hours. It's dangerous and unacceptable."
I nodded, feeling a mixture of satisfaction and resignation. "Yes, ma'am. Understood."
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, smooth stone, handing it to me. "This is an Ash Stone. It deactivates all spells cast by a witch within the last twelve hours. Keep it with you, and use it if things get out of hand again."
I took the stone, its cool surface grounding me. "Thank you, ma'am. I appreciate it."
Just then, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and then answered it. "Yes? Kimberly's awake? Good. Thank you for letting me know."
She hung up and looked back at me, her expression softening slightly. "Kimberly is awake, but Seraphina, I need you to understand that this cannot happen again. Witches and Werewolves can fight but within the rules of the school don't knock out any more students understand?"
"Yes, ma'am," I replied with as much forced sincerity as I could muster.
"Good," she said, taking the stone back from me. "Now, carry on with your class."
With that, she left the room, leaving the teacher to start the lesson. I sat back down, unfazed by the stares from my classmates. All around me, werewolves were looking at me in shock and what seemed to be admiration, but I couldn't understand why.
Sam leaned over, whispering, "Don't let it get to you. Kimberly had it coming."
Morgan nodded in agreement. "Yeah, you did what you had to do. Besides, we're all in this together."
I appreciated their support, but my focus quickly shifted back to the lesson. The teacher began discussing the history of werewolves and their integration into society. As the teacher continued, the topic shifted to something called the Forever Beast.
"Now the beast came into the world in the 1000's the story goes in legend that the beast was just a normal woman. She had lost her husband to some unknown illness at the time stricken with grief she made a deal with the devil. She would pay any price to bring back her husband, so the devil made her a deal. The deal was it will cost her, her mind, body, and soul. For this deal, a curse was laid upon thee. He condemned her to spend this life and every life thereafter as a beast of pure terror. She shall embody the form and power of every mythical creature ever feared and whispered about in nightmares. Once her husband was raised from the dead she left and came back years later. Only to find that her husband had found another so the beast whet into a horrible rage. Killing the man's new wife and their two children the man was able to escape and got the rest of the village to come and kill the monster. There was blood shed and death covering the whole of the village but finally after much death the village was able to slay the beast. But legend says it still wonders the earth waiting for one day for its chance to return and rain havoc on the earth." Mr. Clarson said.
