The Marigold
If you're familiar with Día de los Muertos in the 2017 animated film Coco, you may have noticed the use of marigold flowers to guide the spirits of deceased loved ones across to the world of the living. This tradition dates back to the Mesoamerican civilization in central Mexico around the 1300s.
The use of scattered marigold petals holds significant meaning as they create a guiding path. Similarly, in some countries, marigold petals are tossed at weddings, forming a pathway for the couple and symbolizing a warm welcome for their new beginning.
