13. in the storm

"It definitely looks like it's gonna rain," Kellin says, squinting up at the night sky.

Vic shrugs. He and his boyfriend have been sitting out on their front porch, chatting and looking up at the stars, but within the past few minutes, the sky has become significantly darker. In fact, they can't even see the stars anymore; the rainclouds have covered them all.

"We should go inside," Kellin continues, pointing upward. "The Weather Channel said something about a storm tonight."

Vic bites his lip ponderingly, his mind scrolling through the possible options. "I like storms. We could watch."

Kellin makes a noncommittal noise, staring at Vic for a long time. "Fine," he says. "We'll wait a few more—"

His voice is cut off by the sound of crashing thunder, and he jumps, letting out a small squeak and shooting up to his feet. Vic tries not to laugh...and fails. He can't help it. Kellin looks like a scared little kid, a deer caught in the headlights, to the point where it's almost comical.

"Don't laugh!" Kellin says indignantly, pushing his hair out of his face in an attempt to look normal and notpetrified. He also fails.

"I'm sorry," Vic giggles, standing up to face Kellin. "It was kind of funny. And cute."

"It just startled me," Kellin says. That's when it starts to rain.

It's sudden and unexpected, and if they weren't underneath the awning of their house, above the porch, they would've been soaked within seconds. To Vic, it's both soothing and exciting. He really does love watching and listening to storms, but Kellin doesn't seem to share his worldview.

"We should go inside," he says quietly.

Vic's got a better idea, though. He raises an eyebrow, smiling playfully. "Wanna make out?"

Kellin just looks at him, clearly missing the point. "What? Why?"

Vic just shakes his head. "Kellin, have you ever kissed someone in the rain before?"

Now he seems to be getting it, and he glances over at their yard before turning back to Vic. "No."

"Do you want to?"

Kellin nods slowly, and the look in his eyes says he means it, so Vic takes him by the hand and pulls him down the front steps, into the pouring rain. Just as Vic predicted, they're soaked almost immediately, but it's summertime, so it's less cold and gross and more of a refreshing feeling; to Vic, at least. He doesn't get much time to dwell on it, though, because Kellin pulls him in by the shirt and kisses him.

Vic lifts Kellin up like they do in movies, and Kellin wraps his legs around Vic's waist, tangling his fingers in his boyfriend's wet hair. Vic lightly bites Kellin's bottom lip, running his tongue across it, and Kellin sighs and deepens the kiss, both of them wet and holding onto each other like they're each other's lifelines. Vic doesn't care how stereotypical it is; he loves it.

Thunder rumbles in the distance. Vic expects Kellin to jump again, but he doesn't. He just tightens his grip on Vic's hair and kisses him even harder.
