Note: This story takes place in an alternate timeline, where it wasn't Chara, but a different child who fell into the Underground, befriended Asriel, etc. Everything else is the same.

It was a hot summer day, and the sun was at its zenith, beating down onto Frisk, Sans and Papyrus as they walked through the city, Papyrus sipping from his mug, which read "World's Best Brother". The monsters had been on the surface for a week since Asriel and Frisk released them from the Underground.
Frisk, Papyrus and Sans now lived in a house on the surface, in the big city.
"So, are we going to the park again?" Papyrus asked.
"Oh. Sure, just make sure to tell me next time that toddler bullies you," Sans replied in his deep voice.
Frisk giggled, and Papyrus whined; "She had a sharp twig!"
As the trio crossed the road, they entered a small park, where kids played and bees buzzed.
"Oooh! I'm gonna go down the slide!" Papyrus exclaimed before dashing off toward the playground.
"Knock yourself out," Sans muttered as him and Frisk continued walking. "So, kid, you make any friends up here on the surface yet?"
"Not quite yet," Frisk said. "But I have a feeling that someone really special is waiting for me up here."
"Did your horoscope say that too?" Sans winked.
"Uhh..." Frisk blushed, "I don't believe in that stuff."
"Gotcha," Sans pat Frisk's brown hair in a fatherly way.
Just then, Frisk spotted someone sitting on a wooden bench. Their hair was a bit shorter than Frisk's, but the same dark brown. Their cheeks were very rosy, and they were dressed in a green shirt with a yellow stripe, similar to Frisk's. They looked lonely.
"Hey, Sans, can I play here for a bit?" Frisk asked.
"Sure, just don't get hurt. I'll be at the café down the street if you need me. Or you can just gimme a call."
"Thanks!" Frisk ran toward the child on the bench. "Can I sit?" they asked when they got there.
"Sure," the child replied as Frisk sat down.
"So... what's your name? Mine's Frisk."
"I'm Chara."
"Chara, huh? That's a pretty name."
"Thanks," Chara blushed.
"So, um... do you live around here?" Frisk asked. For some reason they felt nervous around Chara, and their stomach was full of butterflies.
"I don't really live anywhere. Ever since my parents died, I've just moved around, hoping maybe someone real nice would take me in," Chara said glumly.
"Oh... I'm sorry," Frisk felt so bad for Chara, and they decided to scoot over and hug them, even though they had just met.
As Frisk embraced Chara, Chara blushed heavily, and- by instinct- wrapped their arms around their new friend. Frisk smiled, and they felt sad when they pulled away from Chara, like they wanted to hug them forever.
"Uh- do you wanna- go play?" Frisk stuttered, smiling with nervousness as well as kindness.
"That'd be great," Chara smiled.
With that, the two ran off toward the playground, where Papyrus was playing with a few other monsters.
Five hours later...
As Frisk and Chara sat in the grass, talking and laughing, Sans approached them, Papyrus at his side, sipping from his mug. Frisk and Chara were so focused and happy that they didn't even notice Sans until he tapped Frisk on the shoulder.
"Hey. Kiddo. We should probably head home. It's almost dark," Sans said.
"But me and Chara are having so much fun!" Frisk exclaimed, "and- they don't even have somewhere to stay!"
"Well, I-" Chara began, but stopped.
"Maybe they could stay in our extra room tonight," Papyrus suggested, "ooh! And we could have a slumber party!"
"That's cool with me," Sans shrugged, getting a huge grin out of Chara, "after all, Chara seems nice. In this timeline."
"What was that, Sans?" Papyrus asked.
"Nothin'," Sans chuckled. "C'mon guys, we don't wanna miss dinner."
"I'm making spaghetti," Papyrus boasted.
"Yum!" Chara responded.
"Don't get your hopes up," Frisk muttered.
Once they got home and Chara choked on the spaghetti, Papyrus turned on a romantic comedy and Frisk, Sans and Chara sat on the couch, trying to stay awake. The movie was preternaturally boring, and Frisk had to keep rubbing their eyes to keep from falling asleep. Papyrus had gone to bed early because the scene where the dog died was too sad, so his ridiculous commentary couldn't wake everyone up.
Suddenly, Frisk leaned over and whispered in Sans's ear: "hey, can we talk in private for a minute?"
"Okie. Hey, kid- er- the kid to my right. Frisk and I'll be right back."
Chara nodded as Frisk led Sans into his bedroom. As soon as they were in, Frisk began to fidget with their hands.
"What's up?" Sans smiled, tapping his toe on the hardwood floor.
"Yeah... Sans?" Frisk stuttered, "Ch-Chara and I are really good friends, and- they don't really have anywhere to stay. I was wondering if they could... stay with us for more than one night."
"Okay. Like a week-long thing?"
"No... like- LIVE with us. I just - can't leave Chara."
Sans stayed ominously silent for what felt like years; "okay. As long as Chara says it's okay."
Frisk squealed with delight and hugged Sans quickly before running out into the living room.
"Hey Chara!" They yelled. "H-how..."
Chara turned around, their soft pale skin illuminated by the light of the TV, "what is it?"
"How... would you like to live with me, Sans and Papyrus? Like- forever? Well- until we come of age. Or you could perhaps-" Frisk was cut off when Chara sprung from the couch and hugged Frisk tightly, tears flowing from their shiny eyes.
"I'd love that," Chara whispered, "I'd love that a lot. I-I never could've imagined that whoever would take me in would be as great as you, Frisk."
The two hugged for a while, neither of them ever wanting to pull away.
