3. Glimpse of Us

Rieka wrote jon that night knowing it would take a while to get there but she hoped the winds would carry it swiftly.

She had an unrealistic hope that he would make it for the wedding. They would reconnect fall madly in love once again because she had never fallen out of love and he would never leave.  

"Kai, kai," rieka cooed he yawned stretching out over her bed. "My sweet baby boy what are you ready to get up?" He shook his head rolling over in bed. She sat beside him stroking his back. He blinked slowly back at her. "I got flat apple cakes being made." She whispered. He jumped up.

"Im coming!" He shouted running off.

"Slippers honey!" She called out but he ran down the hall in just his underwear. "Pants too perhaps!"

Jon unfortunately liked to dream up scenarios. Like rieka was married, and already had three more kids and never thought about him. Or she was falling in love with a handsome nobleman or a handsome prince from dorne. In every scenario, he came up with she was falling in love and moving on and never ever thought about him. 

It was depressing, but it kept him from trying to go to her 

Because when he thought of what he wanted... her to be raising the children rickon, kai, shireen and olly to be looking after their brother, the king and to go home every night to bed all alone it made him sad too  because she was such an amazing person that deserved all the love in the world

She gave so much love to everyone else that she deserved to be happy and in love and falling in love with Prince someone that could give her the world not a bastard like him. Not someone stuck at the night watch

"Commander?"

"What?" Reality had a way of pulling him out of his daydreams and his delusions.

" raven from the capital."

Jon was always nervous and excited to get a raven from the capital because he was expecting one of these days to get an invitation to a wedding. Riekas wedding. Saying that she had moved on because he never would

Jon unrolled the seal only to find it was an invitation. A wedding invitation at that  he rolled it back up and threw it on his desk. He couldn't even look at it. He didn't wanna know what lucky man had claimed her heart

Rieka expected every raven to be for her. But of course it wasnt jon. She grumbled kicking at stones before moving to the courtyard to watch her boys train.

Olly ran to her, hugging her. She smiled running her fingers through his hair.

"Hey sweetie."

"Mum do I have to wear a fancy outfit to the wedding?"

" do you wanna wear a fancy outfit to the wedding?"

" no."

"Then no. I don't mind what you wear as long as you show up with a smile on your face."

"Thanks mum." Olly said running off. Rickon was showing kaius how to kill the lord of straw and rieka sighed remembering how jon used to defeat his own lord of straw at every family function.

She felt like she was going to cry, so she looked away. This was a happy month, filled with joy and love and no tears. No matter how much you tried to push him from her mind, he was always there. He had been a part of her life, the main part of her life. So of course she saw him in every stone every sword every book every time the winds blew just right through the trees. In every man with thick black hair that had their back to her she could hope and dream for a moment that it was jon coming back to her. But then she caught a glimpse of the man and lost the glimpse of Jon.

The glimpse of them was always gone like a brutal stab to the chest

The turbulence of her life was more jagged without  Jon in it. She didn't know how she was going to survive the rest of the her life without him.
