Three strange faces stare right at me as I walk into the dining room. Two of them are closer to my age but the third one is older.
One of them raises an eyebrow at me as I stare at his face and blue eyes. "You must be Alexandra." He concluded. I nodded my head and looked at my brothers for help. I didn't know what to do. Who are they?
Then Damon and Damien walked in and as I looked at Damon I could see the resemblance between him and the boy who just talked. He's also their cousin and the older one must be their dad.
"I see you've met my brothers and father." Damon spoke winking at me.
"Everyone, introduce yourselves please." Damien added as he took his seat and gestured for me to do the same. I was about to sit next to him when Damon said, "Sit next to me." He smiled at me and patted the space beside him.
Damien glared at him and looked up at me. "You can sit wherever you want." He spoke for my benefit but I could see he wanted me to sit next to him so that's what I did. I didn't know Damon anyway.
"Hi, I'm Tyler." The boy who spoke earlier told me. His blue eyes remind me of Paris.
"I like your eyes."
"Really?"
I nodded my head. "They're so bright and beautiful."
He chuckled, "you know what else is beautiful?"
I shook my head. "You."
I shake my head to get those memories out of my head. "Are you listening to me?" I looked up to see the older version of Damon staring at me with a cold expression. "What?" I asked and he snorted. "Has anyone taught you to be respectful to your elders?" His voice was laced with critique and judgement.
What can I say to that?
"Leave her be." Warren's voice is heard before he even enters the room. His eyes find mine and he gives me a small smile. He looks around me and when he can't find an empty seat, his expression falls like he's disappointed he can't be next to me.
"I'm just trying to teach her
She'll need it if she's going to be part of our family.""There's no if." Warren replied in a firm tone and Jonathan frowned. "Since when are you guys so close because I remember a few days ago you wanted to throw her out."
What?
I glance at Warren, hoping that he's gonna deny Jonathan's claims but he doesn't. Instead he looks at me with remorse in his eyes.
He wanted to throw me out? I shake my head at him and pick up my fork.
"You shouldn't start eating before your elders." The uncle says and I sigh, dropping the fork. Is he going to control every move of mine?
"She'll eat whenever she wants to." Warren sends a glare towards his uncle and his cold tone makes me shiver.
"I'm Xavier." Their uncle says nonchalantly and looks at his other son who's sitting beside. He has different features than his brothers. If Damon and Tyler had blue eyes and light brown hair, he has hazel eyes and dark hair.
He looks over to me and waves his hand dismissively, "Doesn't really matter who I am or what I want." He mumbles the last part to himself.
Xavier turns to him and raises an eyebrow, daring him to continue but the boy just rolls his eyes and glances at me. "Jeremy, 21."
"Hey Jeremy!" Oliver walks in with his cat which starts meowing after seeing Jeremy. Oliver lets the cat down and it immediately runs to Jeremy. It's obvious which cousin is Barry's favorite.
Jeremy pets the cat twice before picking his fork up and after sending his father a mocking smile, starts eating.
"So, Alexandra." Damon breaks the comfortable silence in the room after a while. "If you need help choosing a dress for our gala, I'm your man." He winks at the end and Damien sends him a glare but Damon just waves him off.
"Gala?" I ask and glance at my brothers.
"You're not informed about it?" Xavier sends an accusatory glance at Damien and Warren.
"It's two months away." Damien defends himself. "It slipped my mind because it's not important right now."
"Or maybe we didn't want to bring her with us." Caleb starts and points at Damon with his fork, "But you just ruined that plan."
Damon frowns, "Why would you not want to bring her with you guys, she's your sister."
"Half sister." Jonathan replies through gritted teeth and glares at me. Glad to see the glaring thing is going to continue forever.
"But still family." Damon speaks and turns to me. I can see the empathy in his expression for me and I hate it. I don't want people to pity me.
"You can come with me. I'd rather spend the whole night of the gala with you than with your brothers and their partners." He smiles at the end and I can't help but grin at him. His words meant a lot to me. Even my own brothers don't want me around but he will be pleased to spend time with me.
"She's coming with us and I will help her choose a dress." Warren's not in the mood for any more arguments so he speaks on Damien's behalf. I know it's Damien's decision if he'll bring me or not. But I have more important things to worry about.
The rest of the dinner goes silent and I'm thankful. I don't feel comfortable being around so many men. Especially when most of them hate my presence even in their house let alone in the same room as them.
"Alexandra do the dishes, I have things to discuss with your brothers." Xavier's authoritative voice really makes me want to punch him. Why does he think he can boss me around in my own house.
I bit on my tongue trying to stay silent. I didn't want to get into trouble. But his next words made me snap. "And bring me coffee in Damien's office afterwards."
"If you want a coffee you can make it yourself." I said with venom dropping from each of my words. Who does he think I am? His slave?
Xavier seems confused at first on what just took place, but when he registers my words, his expression hardens. "What did you just say to me?"
"You can't talk to our uncle that way, have some respect." Jonathan bites back.
I glanced at my brothers to see that Caleb is nodding at his twin's words, Damien is looking confused, probably not understanding why I spoke so harshly to his dear uncle and Warren is staring between me and Xavier. Trying to decide whose side to choose maybe?
The only brother, Oliver, who might have chosen my side is gone. He went to feed his cat.
So I'm left alone. Obviously Xavier's sons are going to be on his side and all of them are probably going to yell at me and maybe.. maybe they'll hit me to teach me a lesson.
My heart's beating faster than normal which is understandable as I stare at my brothers trying to find my next words.
"Anything to say for yourself Alexandra?" Xavier repeats looking amused. Like he likes my being terrified of him.
"Dad leave her be. Her grandparents just died and she's in a new environment -" Xavier cuts his son off, "Damon stop talking." Damon obliges.
"You shouldn't talk back at me with that tone that you did." Xavier explains what he didn't like about my answer.
So I decide to explain my side. "And you shouldn't talk to me with that tone that you used earlier either. You know what? Don't talk to me at all." I turn around on my heels and run up the stairs not missing Jeremy's proud little smile on his face. Seriously? He's proud of his father belittling a 16 year old?
Another thought comes to my mind almost immediately. Maybe he's proud of me for talking back at his father but why would he be?
I locked the door to my room and jumped on my bed. I hope they leave in the morning so I don't have to see them again.
