The town of Greybrook had long since forgotten about the old hospital. The whispers faded, the rumors died out, and life moved on. Most people had never dared to venture into the woods, let alone near the crumbling, decaying building that stood at its heart. But some were still curious.

Some were still drawn to it.

Lily, an outsider who had recently moved to Greybrook with her father, had heard the stories-the tales of the lost teens and the abandoned hospital in the woods. She wasn't the type to believe in ghosts or curses, but something about the way the locals spoke about it piqued her curiosity. They spoke of it in hushed tones, as if they feared the building itself might hear them.

Her friends, Jake and Emma, had heard the same stories. They had never been inside the hospital, of course, but they were intrigued. The three of them were explorers at heart, always seeking out the unknown, the forbidden. So when they heard that the hospital had once again been abandoned-its dark history still alive in whispers-they decided it was time to investigate.

"You sure about this?" Jake asked as they stood at the edge of the woods, staring through the trees at the looming silhouette of the hospital. His voice was nervous, but there was an undercurrent of excitement, too. "I mean, we don't really know what happened to those kids."

Emma, ever the skeptic, shrugged. "It's just an old building. People get scared of stuff like this all the time. There's nothing supernatural about it."

Lily wasn't so sure. Something about the hospital's presence felt different. There was an energy in the air-thick, oppressive. But she didn't want to admit her unease, not to Jake and Emma. They were excited, and she didn't want to be the one to ruin the adventure.

"I'm in," Lily said, though her voice wavered slightly. "Let's just check it out. If it feels wrong, we leave. Deal?"

Jake and Emma nodded, their faces set with determination. And so, with only the moonlight to guide them, the trio pushed forward, making their way toward the gates of the hospital.

The rusted iron bars creaked as they slipped through the gaps, the wind howling through the trees behind them. The air seemed to grow colder as they moved deeper into the hospital's grounds. The closer they got, the more the oppressive atmosphere seemed to wrap around them like a blanket.

As they reached the hospital's front steps, Lily paused. The heavy, musty scent of decay drifted toward her, mixed with something else-a sharp, almost metallic tang in the air that made her stomach twist. She glanced over her shoulder at Jake and Emma, both of them standing close behind her, their faces set with a mixture of apprehension and excitement.

"You sure you want to go in?" Lily asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yeah," Emma replied with a nod. "We came this far. Let's see what's inside."

The front doors were ajar, the hinges squealing as the wind pushed them open. The building seemed to exhale as they stepped inside, as though the hospital itself had been waiting for them.

The darkness in the foyer was thick, swallowing their flashlight beams as they made their way through the hallway. The walls were covered in peeling paint, the floors cracked and warped, and the air was thick with dust. Every footstep echoed, every creak of the building felt too loud, too alive.

"This place is... way creepier than I thought," Jake said, his voice low as he shined his flashlight around.

Lily's skin crawled. She could feel the weight of the building pressing in on them, as though the walls were closing in, watching, waiting. Her eyes kept darting toward the dark corners, where shadows seemed to shift and move, despite there being no wind to stir them.

Emma laughed nervously. "It's just an old hospital. Just keep looking for the creepy stuff, and let's get out of here."

But Lily couldn't shake the feeling that they weren't alone.

They made their way down a hallway lined with old hospital rooms. The doors to each room were slightly ajar, revealing overturned beds, broken equipment, and abandoned medical charts. A cold chill filled the air, and the walls seemed to hum, a low, almost imperceptible vibration that tugged at the edge of Lily's awareness.

"Let's check the basement," Jake suggested after a few moments of silence, breaking the uneasy stillness.

Lily hesitated. Something about the idea of descending into the dark, hidden depths of the hospital felt wrong, but she didn't want to seem like the scared one. So, with a deep breath, she followed them toward the stairs leading down into the basement.

As they descended, the air grew colder, the darkness more suffocating. Each step creaked under their weight, as if the staircase was barely holding together. The flashlight beams wavered in the dark, illuminating only a few feet ahead.

When they reached the bottom, they found themselves standing in front of a long, narrow hallway. The walls were damp, covered in mold and decay. A faint odor of something rotten hung in the air.

"This is where they found the bodies, right?" Emma asked, her voice quiet.

Lily didn't answer. She wasn't sure what had happened to those kids, but she could feel the presence of something, something that had been lying in wait, watching them as they approached.

Suddenly, a sound echoed down the hallway-a soft, scraping noise, like something dragging across the floor. It was faint, but unmistakable.

"What was that?" Jake whispered, his voice tight with fear.

Lily's heart pounded in her chest. The noise was growing louder, closer. She could feel the temperature dropping rapidly, a chill that seeped into her bones. Her flashlight flickered, casting long shadows across the walls, making everything feel wrong.

"Let's go," Lily said, her voice shaking. She turned to head back up the stairs, but the moment she moved, she felt something shift in the air, something dark and heavy.

The scraping noise stopped.

And then, from the shadows, came a low, guttural whisper.

"You shouldn't have come."

Lily froze, her blood running cold.

The whisper came again, this time louder, more insistent. "You shouldn't have come back."

Before she could react, the ground beneath her feet trembled. The walls seemed to pulse, and the temperature dropped even further. A shadow moved out of the corner of her eye, and Lily turned just in time to see something large and dark darting across the hallway.

Something... alive.

"Run!" Jake yelled, and Lily didn't hesitate. She bolted up the stairs, her heart pounding in her chest. Behind her, she could hear Jake and Emma's footsteps following closely, but they were too loud, too frantic.

When they reached the top of the stairs, Lily turned to find Emma and Jake behind her. But as they emerged from the basement, the door slammed shut with a deafening bang. Emma screamed.

The hospital had sealed itself again.

And now, they were trapped inside.

Lily's eyes went wide with terror as the sound of footsteps-slow, deliberate, heavy-echoed from the darkness beyond the door.

The thing in the hospital was awake. And it was coming for them.
