-----------2 MONTHS LATER --------------

Today I got a break from patrols. Thank the Lord. For some odd reason patrol with Nova has been so awkward. We have only hung out a few times since I've been back on patrols with her. But when we talk it's mostly about the girls and this guy they gawk over. Most of the time when I speak I get left with a nod and or something small and simple.

It feels like an effort trying to talk to her. But the good news is that Maria has assigned me more roles for me to help around the town more. And I get out of the shed more. Me and ellie have hung out a few times also. Me and her mostly walk around the town and chat about casual stuff. Sometimes I catch Nova and her friends looking. One time I thought they were snickering but I assumed it was about something else and not me.

Now that spring is here I feel more happy, more reasons to get out of the shed. I enjoy winter a lot, but it got so cold I could barely handle it. Patrols during winter are hell .

I'm holding JJ as Dina helps lift some wood for Tommy and Maria before maria comes up to me.

"Hey when your done can you stop by the barn? I need to speak to you, nothing bad"

I smiled and nod before looking at Ellie. She was opening the gate, helping some men lead in more wood. Couldn't help but to admire.

"Who are you gawking at?" I turn around and Dina stares at my hips crossed before taking JJ from my hands.

"Nobody"

"Well this 'nobody' aka Ellie.. is sure to make you smile hard. "

"Shut up!!"

Dina knows I like ellie. I told her about a month ago and she is nothing but supportive, she isn't jealous or mean about it. I remember coming by her house one night sobbing telling her how I liked Ellie and how I didn't want it to affect our friendship. Dina meant the world to me. She was my best friend. After feeling like I lost Nova Dina and Ellie were all that I had. And I didn't want it to be all in ruins.

I notice Ellie walking up to me brushing her hands on her pants

"Hey stranger"

"Hey y/n"

"What's up need help?" I can't help to smile a bit as I look into her eyes.

"Uh yeah- the men are being pussys and complaining saying they need someone else"

I scoff and laugh "yeah I'll be there, I need to talk to maria first tho she needs me back at the barn, and then I'll help is that okay?"

"Yeah that's fine."
  
she walks back and I walk to the barn

"Hey maria what's up?"

Maria jumps. I must have startled her

"Shit you scared me. I'm here to talk about your patrols"

I look at her my brows furrowing.

"Your doing good on patrols your just having a switch of partners"

"Oh?"

"Nova requested evening patrols with Sofie about 3 weeks ago and I told her I would think about it, because I didn't know where to put you- well with Ellie's partner passing a few days ago and you and Ellie being off patrols I decided to put you two together"

"Oh okay!"

"I have been seeing you two getting along, I'm glad she finally has someone to talk to she really needed it"
