only later did it occur to a momentarily starstruck wooyoung (blame it on the kiss) that he should've used that little window of time, the time he got to himself when he was alone with san, to empty out all the questions he needed to ask.
ideally, he'd have nothing on his mind right now. and ideally, since the guy he wasn't supposed to like but somehow ended up falling head over heels for was now in his house, having claimed that he reciprocated wooyoung's feelings—well, ideally, he could've been doing all those romantic things one did with their crushes, like he was back to his 17-year-old self.
watching movies together—maybe horror, because that's what they always did in the movies. maybe an evening stroll, with the golden hour light making everything look perfect? maybe they could cook something together and laugh while having food wars, or maybe they could've just settled for something mundane like washing dishes together—but with a little more accidental hand brushing and not-so-accidental glances.
it all sounded perfect, really; like one of those rom-com montages, right before the big declaration of love. but, of course, there were flaws in this seemingly flawless scenario wooyoung had conjured up—god knows when and god knows for what purpose.
firstly, would san even be into that kind of stuff? no, his entire thing was just video games, devil horns, and helping people behind the shadows—so maybe angel wings, too. he was a perpetually banal man, spiteful when the situation called for it, and mute unless he wasn't. and a man of absolutely no words, a man who consistently showed no interest in things, was a man wooyoung assumed would hate romantic things.
the second problem? wooyoung's family.
wooyoung's wonderfully meddling, collectivist, i-can't-mind-my-business-nor-can-i-give-wooyoung-some-privacy family had essentially coiled themselves around san, leaving no room for wooyoung to even hold another private conversation with him—forget all of san's sneaky kisses. the man was so occupied, he couldn't even afford to meet wooyoung's gaze on most occasions throughout the day.
and to think, with yi-seul at work for most of the day and dad at the restaurant, leaving just mom at home, wooyoung would've gotten all the time he needed!
but nooooo. as if it wasn't enough to snag him for a football match (who watches football that early in the morning?), his mom had then taken him away to show him around their garden, the one she'd curated with dad. after that, it was off to show san around dad's restaurant, where wooyoung wasn't allowed to go because—surprise!—he was tasked with doing the dishes.
after lunch at the restaurant, his mom decided to take san on a tour of the area, leaving wooyoung alone to—what?—think about all the questions he still hadn't asked.
wooyoung had hoped that lunchtime would give him the chance to have at least a few minutes with san to finally ask all the questions he had—like, how did san even discover his feelings? what changed? when did he decide wooyoung was the one he liked? because, wooyoung was seriously starting to think this whole thing was a dream.
