"Been talkin' 'bout the way things change," -Rivers and Roads by The Head And The Heart
You stumbled off the jet bridge, not looking back at the plane you had just come off of. The clear skies allowed the Sun to illuminate the airport. The air smelt full of new beginnings.
Your sole focus was on finding your brother and mom as quickly as possible. You ducked and weaved through the bustling crowd, tiptoeing to see over people's heads. Finally, you spotted two green heads by the baggage claim.
"Over here, sweetie!" your mom shouted in your direction. You briskly made your way over and she embraced you in a hug. Tears flooding her eyes, she cried, "I've missed you so much, Y/N!"
Your head stuck in her shoulder, you mumbled, "I missed you too, Mom." You pulled yourself out of her grasp and turned to your brother, Izuku. He dropped his bag and ran into your arms. "Missed you too, Izuku."
Holding back his tears, he choked, "I-I missed you s-so much!"
Wrapping up your greetings, you made your way out of the airport and into the parking garage. From there, you entered the car, and looked out the window.
You were never much of a talker, despite your brother's constant chatter. And especially now, for you had not wanted to talk about your time in America. Fortunately, your family seemed to acknowledge that fact and allowed you to sit in silence.
Not talking about it didn't stop the thoughts, though. Your time in America had truly been one of pure agony.
After being involved in an accident 5 years ago, the pro heroes of Japan decided it was best to send you away to a quirk camp. These camps were designed for "problem" kids who were unable to control their quirks.
The kids in the camp were treated similarly to delinquents. They were never trusted, and never believed. Everyday, you were trained to be effective heroes.
Some kids were passionate, but you despised it. How could the heroes put you somewhere so inhumane and then expect you to become one of them?
"Honey, would you like me to pick up any food?" your mom's voice brought you out of your thoughts.
"Oh, uh- yeah," you answered, still out of it. "Ramen?"
"If that's what you want, sweetie."
"Yeah, it is," you mumbled, putting your head back on your hand and looking back out the window.
Finally, you had arrived at the apartment building. You held the bags of food while Izuku dragged your suitcase. Your mom fiddled with the keys before opening up the apartment.
You walked inside, the aroma of your house wrapping itself around you. The smell of America could never compare to this.
Walking into the kitchen, you placed the bags of food on the table. You quietly poured yourself a glass of water and sat down at the table. Your family quickly joined you.
Throughout the meal, your mom avoided asking questions about America. Instead she commented, "You've grown up so much. You look so beautiful!"
"Mom, stop," you rolled your eyes. "You sound like a grandma when you say that. Besides, that's enough about me. What's been happening here?"
"Oh! Well obviously you know how you were recommended for the hero course at U.A.," your brother's observation reminded you of that fact, and annoyingly, you were sure that the heroes believed you were totally enthusiastic about it, "but I was also accepted at U.A.!"
Now that made you almost spit out your noodles. "What? No offense, but like general studies? Or business?"
"Not quite," he sighed, shyly.
"Then support?" you questioned, confused. How had your quirkless brother been accepted at the most prestigious hero school?
"Well, actually I'm in the hero course."
"What?! How?" you gasped.
Izuku threw up his hands and shook them, "I- well actually I just got a quirk, a couple months ago. The doctors aren't really aware of why. They think maybe I'm just a late bloomer, or maybe that I-" Izuku trailed off, and you raised your eyebrow at your mom to confirm. All she did was shrug, just as clueless as you were.
After you finished your dinner, you and Izuku both got ready for bed. You had shared a room your whole childhood, and the bunk bed you two had was still in the room. You climbed to the top one, and laid down.
You were definitely not excited for the next day.
