Hi Phil. It's me, Dan.
I gawked at my screen as if this were some kind of joke.
I rubbed my eyes and let the patterns flow into the darkness before revealing the truth to myself.
Another message.
Phil, I know you can see this.
I choked on my own breath as I whispered the message out to myself.
I raised my hands above the keyboard then tapped on each letter slowly.
Why did you follow me to work Dan?
Then I minimised the notepad screen to grab some water before my other co-workers start to file in.
Because once they do, it is complete chaos to get anything done around here other than paperwork.
As I grabbed the small white paper cup and allowed the dispenser to fill it with the clear liquid, I leaned on the wall and ran my fingers through my hair, which needed a haircut that was long overdue.
What could Dan possibly want from me?
Does he just want to be friends?
Is he trying to hurt me?
What is he trying to do?
What stopped my thoughts was the sound of wet droplets hitting the light grey carpet, soaking up the colour to fill it with the dampness that started to surround the dispenser's edges.
I quickly shut off the water flow and grabbed the overflowing cup, bringing it to my lips to drink and water that was wading by the rim of the cup.
I walked back to my desk with the soaking cup and grabbing some tissues by my desk and placing it under the cup before checking back on the notepad screen.
Phil, help me.
I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion and typed my response.
Dan, I will help you but please let me work first. I'll talk to you at home with the board okay?
Then his response slowly typed itself up on the screen.
Promise?
I nodded.
Promise.

I was the last to leave the office, therefore I had to turn off all the lights which worries me a little every time in fear of the unknown.
Normally I would just deal with it.
But since that night, I don't really know what to believe in anymore.
I shoved all of my paper work back into my bag and retrieved my phone before zipping it up and going to the back where the electric controls were.
I wrapped my fingertips on the handle and giving myself a countdown before pulling it down and watching the darkness flash before my eyes.
I quickly ran out of the office, my feet hitting the carpeted floor was the only sound that could be heard in the silent darkness of the office.
I ran out into the lighted hallway to close the door and lock it and I swore I saw a figure back in the office.
But right now I couldn't be bothered.
I just needed to get home and see what I had to do for Dan.
