I arrived into work later that morning, patches showing through the sleeves of my crisp white shirt followed along by one that covered my right eye.
I felt my co-worker's stares burning on my back, but I chose to ignore the excessive attention I was receiving and dropped my bag in front of my desk before going off to grab a cup of the stale coffee that was on offer by the fax machines.
I stood, leaning against the wall before I felt someone's hand grab my shoulder and turned me around abruptly before seeing that it was Josh, observing my face with panic, his strong grip on my shoulder causing his nails to dig into my arms.
"Phil you didn't call me after last night, you had me worried sick! What the hell happened to you?" Josh exclaimed, murmurs of other workers who overheard Josh's exclamation wondering, "What could have possibly happened to Phil Lester?"
I gulped, feeling the lump in my throat fall into the pit of my stomach, what could I tell him without sounding like a complete maniac?
"Uh, about that. Intruder broke into the window."
Josh looked at me, dumbfounded.
"So, an intruder was strong enough to be able to break the glass and cause these cuts?"
I felt myself beginning to sweat and diverted my gaze from Josh's.
"Oh yeah, it was a burly man."
Josh let me go and sighed, looking down and raising his hand to massage his temple.
"Well, I'm glad you're okay. Hope you got him out before he could cause any more damage?"
"Yeah, we got that sorted so I'm fine." I said as I shot him a smile before grabbing my coffee and walking back to my desk.
Whilst waiting for the monitor to start up, I sat sipping at my coffee as I thought of the situation we were stuck in.
What was the status of Harrison now? What has become of Dan if he were a cover up for Harrison's mindless follower all along? Were we doomed?
Another sip of coffee came another thought. The colours of the screen began to pop up on the screen, signifying that the computer was ready to go for the day.
I reached for my glasses that sat by the monitor and put them on, pressing the bridge before logging in to my computer and starting the day.
As I worked, I couldn't help but think of the situation in my apartment as of the moment. The investigators surprisingly had no news for me or Pearce about the status of the supernatural beings.
The clicking of my keyboard came to a halt as I rested my hands on my desk. Removing my glasses to rub my left eye and reminding myself to check on my apartment after I leave work today.
My coffee grew colder and colder by the minute as the day passed and I continued typing documents to send in to my boss.
Josh checked on my throughout the day and constantly reminded me to replace the patches the minute I got home, which I agreed to do just so he could stop bugging me about it. But I did appreciate the concern he had for me.
The day came to a close and everyone was shutting the blinds and powering off their computers, packing their bags to call it a day.
