The car came to a halt and the buzzing of the engine slowly died down as Pearce removed the keys from the ignition, clinking against the ring as he hung it around his finger.

He opened the door for me slowly and cocked his head to the side.

"Think you can walk yourself?"

I raised myself off of the car seat and felt the life run back through my legs.

I nodded.

He widened the gap between the outside and myself and I pushed my feet on the floor of the car, stepping outside cautiously, shoes touching the pavement as the wind gushed through the thin layer between my jeans and my skin.

A shiver ran down  my spine and Pearce took off his jacket, slinging it around my shoulders as if it was an immediate reflex once he noticed the hairs of my arms started spiking up and the bumps on my skin rising.

I whispered a thank you and he closed the car door, locking it as it let out a beep signally it's closure.

We walked to the lift, the guard who was on duty staring at us for longer than someone should normally do so before shrugging and returning to his newspaper, fan blowing cool air onto his face.

The lift arrived and opened up, the ding sounding as we were met with the mirrored stares on our faces.

Pearce led me inside, clutching my shoulder protectively as I rested my head between the crook of his neck, engulfing the warmth that he had; something that was still not present on my own skin .

We stood still under the blinding lights of the lift, surrounding by the buzzing of the electrical current flowing through, the sound of the lift being hoisted up by machinery.

Silence was the only thing that stood before us through the agonisingly long trip to Pearce's floor.

The lift came to a halt and the ding sounded, doors opening before us.

Pearce pulled me forward carefully, treating me like a fragile object as we exited the lift, the doors proceeding to close behind us.

I stood stiffly as he left my side to unlock the front door to his apartment, opening it quickly to return his warmth to my skin.

I saw from the corner of my eye that his cheeks were flushing a tinge of rose and I turned to him.

"What's making you feel so flustered?" I asked quietly before he looked down, sighing.

He closed the door and let me inside before cupping my face in his hands and placing his lips on mine.

The surprise overtook me and I felt myself heat up and his lips let go of mine.

"I don't know what I find so irresistible about you, but I just can't get you out of my mind."

And he wrapped his arms around me as he nuzzled his neck where my neck and shoulder connected.

Why did this feel so right, yet so wrong?
