distinct.

thats all that could be used to describe what she was seeing. y/n could faintly see certain objects moving around. the silhouette of a person talking to her, the muffled sound of a familiar voice talking to her.

everything went by in a blur, images flashing between whatever the hell she was seeing.

"y/n."

that voice, it was repetitive, annoying. it tugged something in her heart, a hatred she had never felt before.

"y/n!"

'go away.'

"y/n!" newt huffed, his palm planted onto her shoulder — gently shaking her awake with furrowed brows. she jolted up in a cold sweat, her breathing rapid and shallow. sitting up in her hammock, her hands clammy and fidgety.

"woah woah! greenie, you look like you've seen a bloody ghost."

the british male commented, retracting his hand from her shoulder. concern etched onto his face. "..are you okay?" he asks, a frown masking its way onto his face.

y/n glanced over at him, averting her gaze quickly. "yeah, im fi—" she cut herself off with a groan, her hands coning up to soothe the aching pain in her head.

newt grimaces, staring down at her with a soft sigh. "drank too much moonshine?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. she grumbled in response, her memories from last night all fuzzy and jittered around. like a puzzle piece, feeling all out of place and wrong. "..probably, hell of a hangover.."

he hummed, leaning against a wooden pillar. "alby said you're starting as a medjack first thing in the morning."

she glanced over at him, her brows knitted together as she pulled out of the hammock. "..'kay, uh." she huffed, stumbling a bit before stabilising herself. "medjack,"

newt watched her stagger, an amused look creeping onto his face before he pushed himself off of the pillar. "come, i'll show you the way to the medhut."

y/n nodded, exiting the homestead after him with a soft hum.

"how are you feeling about the glade so far?" he asked, breaking the silence between them. she merely shrugged, glancing over to the forest — now walking beside him. "its nice," y/n muttered, pausing briefly.

"i have a question."

newt glanced over at her, his arms mindlessly swinging my his sides as he walked. he hummed in response, indicating that he was listening.

"how come i get stared at a lot?" she asked, meeting his gaze. a twinge of curiosity in her tone. newt only smiled in response.

"figured you'd be smart enough to figure it out yourself." he teased, tilting his head towards her with a grin. earning himself a scowl from her. y/n deadpanned, rolling her eyes with an exasperated sigh. "..just tell me already."

newt smirked, turning his attention to her, carefully watching her reaction. "there are no other girls here. never has been, never will be..until now. no one's ever seen a girl, at least..i havent seen one."

y/n blinked, glancing over at him with raised brows. "..i knew i was the only girl, but not having seen a girl in your life before?" she mused, a small smile tugging on her lips.

"pretty sad to me,"

he let out a strangled noise, his brows furrowing in disbelief. "its not my fault!" newt exclaimed defensively, glaring at her.

she snickered, stopping beside him next to a large hut built entirely of sticks. "this is it, huh?" she says, looking at the building.

"yep, you'll meet clint and jeff in there." newt grumbles, glancing over at her with a slight nod, "i work in the gardens, so the rest is on you." he then turned in a different direction and began to walk off,

y/n stared at his retreating figure, huffing to herself before pushing the door open — walking into the medhut. being met with two guys. one with peachy skin and curly brown hair and the other with darker skin and slightly volumed black hair.

"yikes-!" the curly haired guy exclaimed, watching as the other guy jumped from the sudden intrusion. dropping a few bandages on the floor. "..oh, its just the greenie." he says, heaving a heavy sigh of relief as he approached her.

"hey there, greenie. got a name?" he asked, smiling as he extended his hand out to her.

y/n glanced down, taking his hand and giving him a firm handshake. "yeah, its y/n." she hummed, glancing up at him and returning the smile.

"its a pleasure to meet you, y/n! im clint and that one over there is jeff." clint said, releasing her hand. "the pleasure is mine," she muttered.

"im guessing alby or newt assigned you as a medjack, yeah?" jeff asked, placing the bandages away into a cupboard with a sheepish look. embarrassed from dropping them earlier.

she nodded, taking a brief look over at the medhut. "yeah," she mumbled, her eyes flickering between the two.

"okay! looks like its time for me to teach you how to do the basics."

clint says rather excitedly, walking behind her and grabbing her shoulders. pushing her over to a chair. he   grabs a few supplies, looking down at her.

"say for example, your patient gets a bruise. what do you do?" he asks, glancing down at her rather expectantly. y/n meets his gaze, looking down at the cot with a small sigh.

"..uhh, bandaid?"

clint deadpans, shaking his head and putting his finger up. "first things first, you see how severe the bruise is. determine the damages and provide your patient with what is needed!"

y/n blinked, processing all of this information with a slow nod. "..okay."

'its going to be a long day working here.'
