Charlie's point of view

"Okay, listen to this one." Liv whispered as she was scrolling through her phone. "Why did the student eat his homework?"

"What kind of question is that?" I grinned, confused.

"Just try to answer jeez."

"Don't know. Why?"

"Because the teacher said it was a piece of cake!" Liv snorted and we both erupted into quiet giggles, trying not to attract the teacher's attention.

"Worst joke ever. Where've you been reading that?" I tried to pick her phone.

"Would you mind answering my question, miss Page?" Mr. Thompson, paused mid-lecture and turned to us with a raised eyebrow.

My eyes widened as I was caught handing Liv's phone and I realized I hadn't heard a single word of the lesson.

"Uh...Yes! Your question...Hum..."

"Yes, my question and the whole class is waiting for your answer."

"Sure! Hum...The answer to the question is hum...What was the question again, Sir please?" I stammered, widening a sheepish grin.

The class erupted in laughter, even Liv. Can't I trust a friend for a moment?

"There were no question at all. Just pay more attention to class and keep this phone away if you girls don't mind." he turned back to the blackboard.

"Yes Sir " I replied back, still grinning despite myself.

"Pay more attention to class?" Liv repeated the teacher's word. "Or get your ears checked?" she quipped, elbowing me playfully.

"This is all your fault." I whispered.

"What's Liv got to do, got to do with it?" Liv teased me using Tina Turner's song What's Love Got To Do With It.

"You and your silly age-old jokes."

"Keep quiet and pay attention to class, miss. Would you?" she replied playfully as I was still smiling shyly. Then Pitt's eyes and mine met as he was sitting a few rows over

"What was that look about?" Liv noticed.

"Look? What look?" I tried to avoid the conversation.

"Don't fool me. You two could light up a room with those stares. Now tell me."

"There's nothing to tell and we were just... you know, sharing a moment about how terrible I am at paying attention."

"Uh-huh. A moment, huh? Is that code for something more?" Liv leaned in closer.

"Don't start a movie in your head, okay?"

"No but look...I mean, he definitely looks at you like you're the last slice of pizza."

"What?"

"Not a pineapple on pizza but definitely like pizza and you know what I mean."

"No I don't and please, let me focus on the class topic. I don't feel like handling another session of embarrassment." I laughed at her hypothesis but felt a flutter of anxiety in my stomach.

As class continued and despite what I told Liv, I found it hard to focus, my mind racing with thoughts of Pitt. I glanced over at him again, and when I caught his eye, we couldn't help but smile as my heart skipped a beat.

"See? That smile? Totally means something. And I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about." Liv nudged me again.

God, will she ever let it go?
