*beep beep beep*
"Ugh..."
*beep beep beep*
"I get it!"
*thwack!*
6:00 AM, the digital alarm clock read on Sal's nightstand. It's monday. Another week of hell in the shithole called Nockfell Highschool.
The blue haired boy reluctantly sat up in his bed, rubbing his eye, waiting for his body to wake up. Once he made a small to do list in his head and mustered up the motivation to actually get out of bed, he stood up and went through his drawers and found a semi-decent outfit to wear for school.
An oversized bleached Nirvana shirt that Larry had made for him a couple months prior, a long sleeve black shirt to go underneath, a pair of black jeans, and some accessories to accentuate the outfit.
Once he got his outfit laid out on the bed, he went to make some coffee. He always drank coffee before brushing his teeth because he hated the residue it left on his tongue after.
During his morning routine, he heard a knock at the front door. It was Larry. He could tell because they had their own special knock for eachother.
"Come in!"
"Hey, dude! Come on, we got like 20 minutes before school starts! What have you been doing?"
"Oh shit, man, I didn't even realize."
Sal rushed out of the bathroom and into his room, grabbing his backpack and speeding out. He figured he was staring into the mirror and thinking for too long. Just getting lost in his reflection, thinking how things would be different if he didn't look like a monster.
"Hey, dude, wanna stop at the gas station? I kinda want a donut."
Larry spoke up, pulling Sal out of his thoughts.
"Aren't we already late?" Sal inquired while walking beside the tall brunette boy on the cracked old sidewalk.
"Well, we'll be quick" Larry retorted with a grin on his face
The two boys walked to the gas station that was nearby the school. Larry entered infront of Sal, immediately walking over to the isle with donuts. Sal, instead, walked over to the refrigerator housing many kinds of sodas, juices, and energy drinks. The shorter boy opened the door and grabbed two Redbulls as he knew Larry most likely wanted one for later in the school day. The coldness of the cans burning his hands as he walked over to the checkout, Larry already standing there.
They walked out once paying for their items, finally making their way to school. Sal took one of the cans out of the flimsy plastic bag and handed it to Larry.
"Oh, thanks, man." Larry spoke, taking the can and putting it in one of his many pockets in his cargo pants.
"No problem, figured you wanted one." Sal replied, taking out his drink and opening it and then followed suit unbuckling the bottom strap of his prosthetic, allowing him to take a sip of the practically corrosive liquid. Larry pulled out his flip phone to check the time while Sal drank his Redbull.
"Shit."
"Hm?"
"It's 7:30"
The boys rushed to school, only having about 5 minutes to get their stuff from their lockers and make their way to their respective classes.
Sal got into his first period right as the bell rang. He quickly made his way to his seat and took out his math textbook and pencil. Once he was situated he glanced around the room, noticing a certain blond haired boy wasn't in his normal seat that diagonally sat from Sal's seat. Now, the blue haired boy wouldn't normally mind that fact, actually, he normally would be happy that Travis wouldn't be in class. It would mean that he wouldn't have to experience as much torment at the hands of the tall blond haired boy.
But recently, Travis has been coming to school with more bruises and injuries than normal. Sal has been actually worried because he knows no one in the school would actually dare to mess with Travis Phelps. As much as Sal wanted to help, he knew getting close to the boy would be a difficult and dangerous task.
As the blue haired boy just barely listened and followed along with the math teacher's yapping, there was firm knock at the door, startling Sal. The teacher opened the door to reveal a very tired looking Travis Phelps. After the teacher told Travis off for being 20 minutes late, he walked over to his seat, shooting a glance at Sal. Although it was softer, like Travis was admiring the shorter boy.
Sal sat the rest of the period quietly inspecting the tall boy infront of him. Thoughts filled his mind to try and justify why Travis didn't insult him or even give him a nasty look. Maybe he just wasn't in the mood? Too tired? Trying to change? No, that doesn't sound like Travis, even for a second.
Thoughts like that raced through his mind as he walked to his locker, grabbing the textbooks and notebooks he needed for his next class. While opening his locker he spotted a small folded piece of lined paper. Slightly confused, Sal grabbed and unfolded the paper, revealing it to be some sort of love note.
"I just think you look so beautiful, your long electric blue hair that flows so nicely, your bright blue eyes that i wish i could stare at forever and get lost in, and your amazing sense of style, you always look so nice in any outfit you put together. Just all these feelings are wrong, and I know I should never feel like this. And I know that you'll never feel the same way."
Was this some weird joke? Was this note actually meant for him? There's no way, how could anyone ever feel this way towards Sal Fisher? The freak who wears a mask and dresses like a girl. This had to be a stupid dare from someone. It had to be.
Sal stifled his confusion and shoved the note into his pocket and re-directed his attention to getting to his next class. Second period he had with Ash, so he could tell her about the weird note he found in his locker. Sal saw Ash walking in the crowded, loud, halls. He caught up with her and chatted for a bit while walking to their seats.
"Sooo..." Sal started, fishing in his pockets to take out the note.
"I found like a love note in my locker. I'm almost 100 percent sure it's meant for me." He continued, pulling out the note and handing it to Ash for her to inspect.
"And you didn't say that first?" Ashley exclaimed, unfolding the note excitedly and looking over the words. Sal knew Ash liked this type of weird girly drama stuff.
"Well, it's probably like a joke or something." The bluenette retorted, still doubting anyone could actually have a crush on him.
"Mmmmmaybe. That'd be a pretty stupid thing to joke about though." Ash replied, her demeanor falling as she realized there was a high possibility for it to be a joke. Given that it's happened to Sal before, in 7th grade. A girl in one of his classes confessed to him and after made fun of him for even thinking anyone could "love a freak like you", in her words.
The rest of the school day surprisingly went without incident. He told the rest of his friends about the note and Larry suggested trying to figure out who's handwriting it is. Sal just decided to leave it, not wanting to put too much time or effort into something that could very well be a shitty joke.
But one tiny voice in the back of his head told him it wasn't a joke.
