But it didn't last long, when Jace opened the door I saw Miles.
He looked messed up, it scared me.
He looked at me with teary eyes.
''Please run, he isn't your brother!'' he screamed at out.
I looked at "Jace'', and all I saw was an evil look on his face.
This wasn't my brother.
I did what Miles told me and tried to run. But he was too fast and grabbed me and dragged me down and dumped me next to Miles
''I told you to keep your fucking mouth shut'' he screamed out at Miles and gave him a kick in his face.
I flinched and started to cry, the boy claiming Jace definitely wasn't him.
''Alex please let her go'' Miles begged.
The boy claiming to be Jace was actually called Alex I suppose.
Alex ignored his begging and left us alone. I was full of tears, Miles tried to comfort me.
I was so scared, I had no clue what was going to happen.
"Avery, it's going to be okay, okay?''
''How do you know?'' I asked, I looked at him with my teary eyes.
''I will get us out of here, I promise''
''What does he want for us?'' I asked. ''I don't know, but all I know he isn't goin
g to hurt you. I will make sure of that.''
I tried to give him a smile, but I was so scared I couldn't.
" You don't deserve any of this.". .
"Do you know why we are here? I sobbed and carefully asked. He hesitated and took a deep breath.
''It's about Jace...'' ''Jace, my brother?'' "Years ago, your brother was dating Riley, Alex, his little sister.
Jace, Riley, me and Thomas came back from a party. That night, a drunk driver hit our car. Riley and Jace didn't survive. Alex blames me, Thomas and Jace for the accident and killing his little sister.
It tore his family apart, and he's been holding onto that anger ever since"
I was quiet for a little while,
"And now he's taking it out on us," I whispered, more to myself than to Miles. "Yeah," Miles acknowledged with a somber nod.
"But I won't let him hurt you, Avery. I'll find a way to get us out of here."
He stayed quiet for a little while, but then continued
"And because Jace is gone, he wants to take it out on someone who was close to Jace, you..."
''But why now? It's been eight years''
''I-I don't know Avery, I think in all those years he wasn't able to find us. He still didn't find Thomas yet.''
When I heard the door open, I got behind Miles.
''Don't be scared now, Avery'' Alex said. Alex handed us an apple and some water. ''You were stupid to believe I was your dead brother'' he said in a childish and humiliating tone
"She wasn't stupid to believe it, you had the necklace, a passport, memories only she and her brother knew. Who would not believe that?'' Miles said.
''How did you got that information?'' I asked Alex carefully.
''I have my sources'' he said in a cold tone, looking at Miles and then left again.
Miles handed me the food,
''You can have it''
''We can share it, you have to eat too'' ''Avery, eat that apple'' Miles kind of snapped, but I saw the worry in his eyes. He did everything he could to protect me, he wants the best for me.
