March 29th 2012:
Dear Avery,
As I sit down to write this letter, my heart aches with the knowledge that I must leave you behind.
But please know, sweetheart that my love for you knows no bounds and I will carry you with me in my heart always.
Leaving you behind is the hardest decision I have ever had to make, but please know that it is not because I do not love you.
It's the opposite, I am so scared something might happen on my way to start a new life. But when I'm completely sure, it's safe and I can take good care of you.
I am there immediately to pick you up, you're the person I love the most in this world and I will never be able to forgive myself if anything happens to you.
Riley is coming with me, Ave. We will build a home together and we will pave the way for a brighter future.
We will carry your love with us wherever we go, and we will never stop fighting for your happiness and freedom.
The necklace I am going to give you after I write this letter is very special. It means we will always be connected, it's a reminder of how much I love and care about you.
And a reminder of the promise I made, that I am coming back for you.
Until that day comes stay strong and brave, sweetheart. You are not alone, Avery. I am always here for you, okay? Even if I am not there in person. I will always watch, guiding and loving you from afar.
It's time for me to go now. I know I can't tell you this in person, but I love you so so much, Avy. I can't say it enough, your smile always brightens up my day. You are my favorite person and I am so proud of you!
I know you'll grow up to do amazing things.
I wish I could be there to see all the milestones, to cheer for you and to pick you up when you fall.
But even if I am not there psychically, know that I am always with you in your heart, memories and in the way you live your life.
Remember the treehouse? Whenever you feel sad go up there, whenever you miss me, go up there and think of all the moments we spent there together.
Hold on to those moments, they will give you strength until I come back.
Whenever you feel lost or scared, just close your eyes and think of me.
