I heard my footsteps echoing as I walked faster, trying to escape.
He called out my name, fear propelled me forward.
My heart raced as I sprinted down the alley, desperately seeking an escape.
But no matter how fast I ran, the alley stretched endlessly before me.
I could hear his footsteps closing in, his presence felt suffocating and his voice was taunting me from behind.
''You can't run from me, Avery'' he whispered, his tone chillingly calm.
With a surge of adrenaline, I pushed myself harder, my breath coming in ragged gasps.
But just as I thought I might escape, his hand closed around me with a tight grip.
I struggled against his hold, terror clawing at my throat.
''No'' I cried out. His grip tightened, looking at me with a twisted grin.
''You never should have trusted me'' he hissed.Suddenly, I jolted awake. My heart was pounding in my chest.
I was back in my room, sweat soaked my brow. I clutched the sheets tightly, trying to steady my breathing.
It took me a moment to realize it was just a nightmare, but I was still so scared.
I called out for Jace, my voice trembling with fear.
Moments later, I heard his hurried footsteps padding down the hallway.
The door to my room creaked open and Jace's concerned face appeared in the dim light. ''Avery, what's wrong?'' His voice was soft and filled with genuine concern as he rushed to my side.
He sat down beside me on the bed, his hand gently resting on my shoulder. I clung to him, I was still trembling.
''It was Miles...he was there, and...and he wouldn't let me go'' Jace's expression softened with understanding.
He pulled me closer into a comforting embrace, his arms enveloping me in a sense of safety.
''It's okay, Avery. You are safe now'' he reassured me.
I buried my face in his shoulder, Jace stayed with me, offering silent support as I struggled to calm down my racing heart. After a while, my breathing steadied and the tension between my muscles began to ebb away.
I pulled away slightly to look at Jace, grateful for his unwavering comfort. "Thank you'' I murmured softly, my voice filled with appreciation.
Jace smiled gently, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face.
''Anytime, Avery. You know I am always here for you'' he replied, his gaze warm and reassuring.
I nodded, feeling a sense of peace settle over me.
In that moment with Jace beside me, I knew that even the darkest nightmares couldn't diminish the strength of our bond.
