As Rick slipped out of his bunk, careful not to disturb Lori, he moved quietly through the dimly lit cell block. The morning light was just beginning to filter through the barred windows, casting soft shadows across the concrete walls. He stretched slightly, feeling the familiar ache of exhaustion that seemed to settle in his bones, but he pushed it aside. They had work to do, and he wanted a moment to gather his thoughts before the others woke up.

Stepping into the common area, he noticed the silence enveloping the prison. It was rare to find this kind of peace, even if just for a few minutes. The others were still asleep, taking advantage of the newfound security that the prison walls provided. He moved through the space, his gaze briefly scanning the cells around him as he mentally prepared for the day ahead.

Rick moved quietly through the cell block, peeking into the cell where Carl lay fast asleep, Beth curled up nearby. A faint smile touched his lips; he was grateful Carl had found some comfort in Beth's presence. But as he watched them for a moment, his mind drifted to his eldest daughter, Alyssa. She wasn't in her usual spot with Carl, and he felt a faint twinge of concern.

He thought perhaps she was with Carol. They'd formed a close bond over the past few months, and it wasn't unusual for Alyssa to seek her out for quiet conversation or support. He moved toward Carol's cell, peering in only to find her alone, still resting peacefully.

Rick's steps slowed as he approached Daryl's cell, an inkling forming in his mind. Alyssa and Daryl had grown close, a bond forged through shared trials and a mutual understanding that went deeper than most people could see. They had become each other's anchors in a world that constantly threatened to pull them apart.

When he finally looked inside Daryl's cell, Rick felt a surge of mixed emotions. There, on the bottom bunk, Alyssa lay fast asleep in Daryl's arms, her face resting peacefully against his chest. Daryl held her close, his arm draped protectively over her, his own expression softened in sleep. It was a rare moment of vulnerability for both of them, an unexpected glimpse into the bond they shared.

Rick's first instinct was a twinge of protectiveness, but as he watched them, his initial reaction shifted. He realized that there was nothing improper or worrisome in what he was seeing. Alyssa was safe. She was with someone who cared for her as fiercely as any family member could, someone who would protect her no matter the cost. In Daryl's arms, she looked peaceful—something Rick hadn't seen in her in a long time.

He took a quiet step back, giving them their space, understanding now that Daryl had become someone she could lean on, someone who offered her a rare sense of security. It was a sight that brought Rick an unexpected sense of comfort. He knew, deep down, that his daughter was in good hands.

As the soft sounds of the others stirring below reached Daryl's ears, his eyes flickered open. He felt the warmth and weight of Alyssa against his chest and, for the first time in what felt like forever, he found himself smiling as he woke up. It was a small, subtle smile, but it was genuine—a brief moment of contentment in the midst of all the chaos that surrounded them.

He gave her a gentle nudge, just enough to rouse her without startling her. "Rise and shine, kid," he murmured, his voice rough with sleep but laced with a hint of warmth.

Alyssa's eyes fluttered open, blinking as she adjusted to the morning light filtering through the barred windows. For a moment, there was a flicker of softness between them, an unspoken acknowledgment of everything they'd shared the night before.the vulnerability, the trust—it had brought them closer in ways that words couldn't fully capture.

But as they exchanged a look, the moment quickly shifted back to familiar territory, both of them instinctively slipping into the playful banter that had become their comfort zone.
