The Price of Ambition

As Aadhi and Shivada shared their quiet conversation, the room felt charged in a different corner where Ram and Shiva sat, wrapped in silence. Ram's gaze, hard and accusing, pinned Shiva in place—a searing reminder of the resentment brewing between them. Shiva could feel it, taste the bitterness that lingered in the air between them, and he knew he deserved every ounce of it. This anger was the price he had paid, the bitter consequence of his own choices, of his silence, of the heavy truth he carried but refused to speak.

But what choice did he have? Shiva had seen the world for what it was—cruel, merciless, and judgmental. He had witnessed firsthand how quick people were to tear others down, hideous comments on Instagram, whispers that festered into vicious rumors, voices brimming with hatred and contempt for something they couldn't understand. He remembered the bile rising in his throat as he read through those comments, words so sharp they cut deeper than any blade, words that made a man's love for another man feel like an unspeakable crime.

The irony struck him. He had seen men who had committed monstrous acts like rape walk free, their sins forgiven, celebrated even. He had seen those same men rise to positions of power, cheered on as though they were heroes. But for him, for this simple truth, being gay, there would be no forgiveness, no understanding. To love Ram openly, to declare it to the world, would be an invitation for scorn, hatred, and worse. In the eyes of this world, to be gay was to be condemned, to invite punishment far worse than any crime could deserve.

The words burned in his chest, words he wished he could say out loud. He wanted to reach out, take Ram's hand, and show the world their truth. He wanted to scream that his love was no less pure, no less fierce, simply because it was for a man. But he knew—he knew what waited for them on the other side. He could almost see the mob, feel the noose tightening around his neck, taste the bitterness of their judgment. This was the cost of his love. This was the curse of a world ruled by a patriarchal system, a world that would sooner forgive violence than accept love.

"Ram," Shiva's voice broke the tense silence. Ram turned to him for a moment, his expression unreadable, before looking away.

"I'm sorry..." Shiva murmured, his voice heavy with regret.

Ram's laugh was hollow, almost bitter. "To whom, Shiva? Who are you sorry for? For yourself? For me? Or for them?" "Did you see how they looked at each other? They're completely in love. And we...we tainted that, all because we were too afraid, too selfish to face the truth."

"I get it, Ram," Shiva's voice shook, but determination filled his eyes. "I swear, I'll fix this. I'll talk to my mother. I'll make this right... Somehow. Please...can you forgive me?" A tear slipped down his cheek, his carefully constructed walls crumbling.

In an instant, Ram stepped forward, his hand lifting to cup Shiva's face. "My Moon..." he whispered, his voice thick with tenderness. He pressed his forehead to Shiva's, their breaths mingling as they stood together, heads touching in a fragile moment of peace. "I love you, Shiva. Even if it's just a lie to the world, I can't imagine seeing you with someone else. Let's leave—escape this place together. I can't bear this anymore."

Shiva closed his eyes, feeling the weight of Ram's words settle within him, bittersweet and aching. "I know, Ram... I know. We'll go soon. Together."

At that moment, Ram and Shiva noticed Aadhi and Shivada standing nearby, fingers entwined, a gentle smile lighting up Aadhi's face. Ram's own face softened, and with a grin, he reached over to take Shivada's hand.

"Well, finally, I get to see my sister smiling for real," he teased, glancing at Aadhi with a smirk. "Seriously, Aadhi, what did you do to my sister?"

Aadhi chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Oh, you know... it's a little love and some... other things. But trust me, Ram, you don't want the details." He shot Ram a playful wink.
