Bullets whizzed past us.Zade expertly took down our attackers.
Axel covered our six.
Thompson and I dragged Jackson to safety.
As we escaped the facility.
Jackson's words spilled out.
"Project Nightshade...biological warfare...population control."
My blood ran cold.
"How far does it go?" Zade demanded.
Jackson's eyes darted.
"Everyone's involved. Government. Corporations. Your family, Zade."
Zade's face twisted.
"We need proof," Thompson said.
Jackson handed her a USB drive.
"Everything's on there."
Suddenly, gunfire erupted.
Our rival team reappeared.
Outnumbered.
We fought desperately.
Axel fell.
"No!" Zade screamed.
Thompson dragged Axel to safety.
I laid down cover fire.
Zade took out the last attacker.
Breathless.
We regrouped.
Axel's wound was severe.
"Hospital," Thompson ordered.
As we sped away.
Jackson's words haunted me.
Project Nightshade.
The scope was terrifying.
We couldn't trust anyone.
Zade's eyes locked onto mine.
"We'll stop this."
No matter the cost.
