Appearances: Kyuhyun (SUJU)
Mentioned: Leeteuk (only once)
——————————"hi i'm U-Know aka Yunho! and this is the TVXQ House!" Yunho said cheerfully, throwing open the door to a space that was both a living quarters and a practice room for their band.
"Yo, what's up, guys?" Changmin waved, his hair sticking up in a way that suggested it hadn't seen a comb in a while. He was in the middle of tuning a guitar, the strings humming a melody that was almost as infectious as his smile. His eyes darted up, full of curiosity about the new visitor.
Jaejoong looked up from his sketchbook, pencil hovering over the page. He took in the newcomer with a cool, appraising gaze, but his hand didn't stop moving. It was as if he couldn't resist the urge to capture something in his art, even for a moment. "You must be the new neighbor," he said, not unkindly. His voice was smooth, like velvet over gravel.
Junsu, the most energetic of the bunch, bounced over, his laughter echoing off the walls as he playfully elbowed Jaejoong. "More like the new fan club member, right?" He grinned, his teeth flashing in the dim light. His dancing shoes squeaked against the floorboards as he offered a hand. "I'm Junsu, the one with the moves that make the crowd go wild!"
Yoochun looked up from his laptop, where he was editing their latest music video. He had a serene expression, his eyes reflecting the glow of the screen. "Welcome to the madness," he said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "I'm Yoochun, the guy behind the camera, the keys, and sometimes the lyrics that make you cry." He pushed his glasses up his nose with his free hand and nodded in the newcomer's direction.
The room was a whirlwind of activity, but it was the sight of the five beds lined up in the corner that really caught the new neighbor's attention. Each bed was distinctly different, a reflection of its owner's personality. Yunho's was meticulously made, with a neatly folded blanket and pillow. Changmin's had a guitar case propped against the headboard, and a pile of music sheets spilling onto the floor. Jaejoong's was the most artistic, with a colorful quilt thrown over it and a stack of sketchbooks beside it.
Junsu's was the most chaotic, with clothes thrown haphazardly across the mattress and a pair of dance shoes lying on the floor as if abandoned mid-step. Yoochun's was the only one with a laptop on it, surrounded by a sea of cables and earphones. It was clear that the TVXQ House was a space where creativity and passion collided with the practicalities of their everyday lives.
They all led the way down the stairs into the living room and kitchen, which was a stark contrast to the organized chaos upstairs. The air was filled with the smell of something savory cooking on the stove, and the sound of pans sizzling and spatulas clanking. The walls were adorned with band posters, gold records, and photos of the members with their arms around each other, grinning from ear to ear at various concerts and award shows. A large, comfortable couch sat in the center of the room, with a low table piled with snacks and drinks, evidence of the countless late-night gatherings and brainstorming sessions they must have had.
Yunho looked around, his stomach rumbling as the aroma grew stronger. "Alright, guys," he announced, "It's time to eat." He wiped his hands on a dishtowel and gestured to the newcomer. "You can sit anywhere. We usually eat around the coffee table." The TVXQ members moved with the ease of a well-oiled machine, setting out plates and bowls filled with steaming rice, spicy chicken, and a variety of side dishes. The sight of the food made the neighbor's mouth water.
Changmin pulled out a chair with a flourish. "Make yourself at home," he said, flashing a mischievous smile. Jaejoong put down his sketchbook, his curiosity now fully piqued. He studied the newcomer, his gaze lingering for a moment before he turned to grab a plate and filled it with food. The clank of silverware and the hum of conversation filled the air as they all took their seats.
As they ate, the TVXQ members chatted freely about their latest projects and the upcoming concert tour. The new neighbor listened intently, feeling both included and overwhelmed by their camaraderie. They had a bond that was palpable, forged in the fires of their shared dreams and successes. The laughter grew louder and the stories more outrageous, until finally the meal was finished and the plates cleared away.
Changmin, feeling the need for some fresh air, excused himself from the group and bounded up the stairs. As he stepped onto the balcony, he was met with a familiar sight. Kyuhyun, from the neighboring SJ House, was leaning against the railing, his eyes closed as he took in the cool evening breeze. The balcony was a small strip of concrete that overlooked a shared courtyard, serving as both a sanctuary and a battleground for the occasional water balloon fight.
For the past two hours, they had talked about everything from music to their childhood dreams. Changmin had shared his early struggles with playing the guitar and how he'd finally got the hang of it, much to his mother's relief. Kyuhyun had reciprocated with tales of his first steps on the dance floor and the exhilaration that came from nailing a routine. They had found a surprising amount of common ground, despite their different bands and styles.
The conversation had meandered from the serious to the absurd, with Kyuhyun recounting a particularly hilarious prank they'd pulled on their leader, Leeteuk, during a photoshoot. Changmin had laughed so hard that he'd almost choked on his water, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. The balcony was now bathed in the soft glow of the moon, the city lights twinkling like stars below them.
"I guess it's time for me to hit the sack," Kyuhyun said, yawning dramatically and stretching his arms out wide. "We've got an early rehearsal tomorrow."
Changmin nodded, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Yeah, we do." He glanced at his watch, surprised to see that it was already past midnight. The time had flown by as they'd talked and laughed, the night air carrying their conversation like a gentle melody. He stood up, his legs feeling a bit stiff from sitting for so long.
"Thanks for the company," he called over his shoulder as he headed back into the house. The TVXQ members had already started to disperse, heading towards their respective beds. Yunho was the first to ascend the stairs, his footsteps echoing in the quiet hallway. Changmin followed, his thoughts racing with the excitement of their conversation. The bond between them felt stronger than ever, and he was grateful for the unexpected connection.
As he reached his bed, Changmin noticed that Yunho had left his guitar behind. He picked it up gently, feeling the weight of the instrument in his arms. It was a beautiful piece, with intricate carvings along the neck and a rich, warm tone that seemed to sing even when silent. He set it back down carefully beside the bed, making a mental note to ask Yunho about it later.
Yunho had already turned off the lights upstairs, leaving the TVXQ House in a peaceful darkness. The soft murmur of the city outside was a gentle lullaby, and the house itself seemed to exhale a collective sigh of contentment as the members drifted off to sleep. The only sound that could be heard was the occasional snore from the direction of Junsu's bed, a reminder of the humanity behind the glitz and glamour of their lives.
