Shoes are sinful, this I decided, as we walked on through the rubble. My feet were starting to blister, and exhaustion was consuming me. Peering back at Hunter, his excursion matched mine. We stopped for a break. I pulled the bottle of water out of my bag, and split it with Hunter as we took turns sipping from it. He pulled a chocolate granola bar from his pocket and broke it into two pieces. It helped, having something in my stomach. We continued on. Many miles ahead. "Hunter. I forgot to ask you something kind of important." I stated with remembrance. "Yes?" he asked with a raise of his brows.
"When I first located the town, and thought I was alone, I really wasn't." I said. Hunter looked amused. "Anna, I know, we met shortly afterwards." I looked at him searching his intriguing eyes. "No Hunter its not that. When I was going to town square, I saw little boy, white balloon in hand. I ventured towards him but he suddenly disappeared. The balloon was weighed down with this." I reached into my back pocket to uncover the locker, and uts mysterious scarlet remnants. He tore it from my hand. He turned it over in his hands, the chain intertwining with his fingers. "Anna.......no wonder you have so many people after you, no wonder you dont remember. This is likely the most powerful thing in all of the country. Here it is, in your capable hands." The confusion was prominent in my face. "What are the red specks inside?" Hunter placed his palms in his face and sighed. "Anna, it's all a signal. A warning really. This locket was a gift from Henry to Amarathine before the shit hit the fan. That little boy you saw, thats Amarathines baby boy. He passed away some time ago. It was the illusion of him you witnessed. The white balloon in the shape of a star was one of thousands released on the night of his funeral."
I was astonished. That was a lot of information in a short time span.
"How did the boy die?" I was genuinely sad for him. "He was murdered." Hunters whole persona changed. "By who?" I was questioning everything. "His name was Aiden. He had a twin sister. She killed him, but she didn't mean to. Anna, he's your brother. You were a twin. You murdered him."
