Anna awoke in the cold sweats. She rubbed her arms, which were covered in goosebumps. It all seemed so familiar, as if it were her favorite television series, or a color of the rainbow, or a childhood story. She stood up, trying not to let the lightheadedness get to her. She turned around, then jumped backward and started crawling on her hands and fell straight on her ass. She fumbled through the grass trying to escape.
"Hey, don't be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you. My name is Hunter, what's yours."
"Ummm, who are you. I...I thought I was the only one left..."
"I awoke with the realization that this wasn't completely normal. This wasn't my life. So i've been treading lightly trying to figure it out from here. I was hoping maybe you wanted a partner in crime, seems like you are in the same boat as I am."
His voice was deep and husky. He had golden, curly locks, and prominent brows, that nicely framed his hazel eyes.
"I...I am Anna. I don't know what happened. I don't even remember who I am or how I got here."
"It's alright Anna. We will figure this out together. What's this?"
He lightly grabbed her wrist, and flipped it over. It showed the tattoo scripting her name.
"Oh my God. Anna. Amarathine. No. No. No! It can't be! I have to go." And with that note he jumped to his feet and started sprinting away. He wouldn't leave without a fight though. Anna chased him through the clearing.
"Damnit Hunter, don't you dare leave! Don't you see. You are the only other one, I can't.....I can't do this alone."
With one fierce leap, Anna tackled him to the ground.
"What are you doing." He said.
"Last I recall, you were the one running from me, what's your problem?" she said more than quietly.
"I know. Who. You. Are. I know where you came from. But if I were to tell you they would kill me, for it is the sin of indiscretion." he said, a tremor of fear running through his husky voice.
"Who is they? I don't understand." she pleaded.
"Good. Its better that way. It may take time for you. But your time is limited. I will stay with you under one condition." He was so confusing.
I loudly sighed "and what's the condition Hunter?"
"Have you ever...passed out? Or fell to the ground suddenly. Or been in a deep sleep?" he said as though trying to gather his words.
"Actually once. I passed out and saw a girl in a champagne dress with long dark ringlets." she said with realization.
"Anna, do you remember that girls name?" he said proddingly.
"No. I mean I thought I did, but it won't come to me." she shifted her eyes downward.
"That's okay Anna, you just aren't ready quite yet. Back to my one condition when you are about to pass out or go into a dream like state, you musn't touch me. Understand?"
"Why? I mean what does it ev."
"Just promise me Anna!"
"Okay." she inhaled then exhaled. She was sincerely curious as to who Hunter was, and how he knew more about her then she did.
He reached his hand towards her face. He tucked a long strand of her messy hair behind her ear.
"Oh my God!" he said with fear.
"Anna pull your hair back, now!"
She didn't have a hair tie, so she ripped a long piece of grass from the earth, and made do.
"What's wrong?" she cried.
They always were obssessed with jewels and riches! I should've known they would pull something like this!
He reached towards her ears, he tore her garnet earrings from each ear and threw them into the tiny stream behind them.
"What was that for? Those were my favorite pair!" Her voice was rising with each word.
"Anna. You don't understand, those earrings were bugged with tracking devices, they are coming for you. And from the likes of it. They are nearby."
" How long do I have to keep running away!" this she yelled.
"I don't know who I am! I ran from the cave I awoke in! I ran from you! Why am I running from my past!?!"
"Anna. Darling. This isn't your past were running from. It's your future. If we don't hurry Anna will be a distant tale, a story. A shelf labeled fiction...come."
and with that she took his hand and followed aimlessly.
