Lennox
I hated him! I hated him, I hated his club, and I hated that I didn't kill him when I had the chance.
He was such a liar! All of them were! I knew better than to go anywhere near them. There was a reason we hated them! My brother wouldn't try to kill Aubrey after she saved Lyla. Jeremy wasn't like that. He could talk as much shit about the club as he wanted but not about my brother. He was the only person I had, the only person I have ever trusted.
It was an hour walk from his stupid house to the park where Shane was picking me up. I didn't say anything when he got there, I just got on the bike.
When I got home, I went to my room slamming the door. Zeus's head shot up from my bed. I moved towards him plopping down and using him as a pillow. He put his head down on my shoulder. I scratched his head."People fucking suck." There was a knock on my door. "What?" The door opened and Jeremy walked in.
"Did you just get home?" I rolled my eyes.
"Are you my dad?"
"Brat. So what's wrong?" I looked up at him, not sure what to say.
"Just thinking about mom." He gave me a knowing smile. Being the reason for your mom's death wasn't something you got over. I always felt an overwhelming sense of guilt when I thought about her and I hated it. I also hated that I never got to meet her, I never got to meet the woman that loved me enough to die for me.
"Len, it wasn't your.."
"Fault." I finished his sentence sitting up. "I know. I have heard you say it a million times." He bumped my shoulder with his, giving me a small smile.
"So, where were you?"
A knock on the door saved me from answering. The door opened and it was one of the club members.
"Jeremy, your dad is here."
I automatically stiffened.
"Tell him I'll be a minute." Jeremy said as the guy left.
"Does he know I'm here?"
Jeremy frowned. "Lennox, I'm in charge now it doesn't..."
"Does. He. Know."
He sighed. "No, not yet. But he is going to see you eventually, you might as well get it over with."
"I'm going to go take Zeus on a walk." I said ignoring Jeremy and moving to the suitcase I still hadn't unpacked. He didn't say anything else as he got up and left the room.
I hated my dad and he hated me. So why should I be forced to see him? The best solution would be to just keep my distance. After I got ready, I grabbed Zeus's leash and hooked him up. I opened my door quietly listening to see where everyone was. I heard distant talking towards the front of the house so I headed towards the side door and walked around to my car.
Zeus jumped out of the car when I finally got parked and waited for me patiently. As I walked him through the park I thought about how I was going to stay here. If I moved in with Jeremy, I'd have to see my dad and there were only so many times I'd be able to see him and it would stay civil. Lauren didn't need that drama in her house and Lyla didn't need to be around fighting, it would mess any kid up, I should know.
I hadn't lived on my own in a long time though and I kind of missed it. It might be nice to have a small place just, me and Zeus. If I didn't get away from Jeremy and Lauren's soon I'd be dragged right back into club shit and as fun as it can be, it's not worth it.
Maybe I could move closer to here. I loved this town and no one really knew me. But there was the issue of the Severed Angels. Now that they knew who I was they might not like me being here. Either way I needed a job. Maybe I could start looking around.
I decided to walk along the sidewalk lining the stores to see if I happened to see any help wanted signs.
As I approached the coffee shop, I saw Aubrey waving at me as she cleaned off the table out front. "Lennox!"
"Hey," I said, shooting her a smile.
"Aw! What a cute puppy! Can I pet him?" She asked. I nodded even though she had already squatted down to rub his ears. "What are you up to?" She asked, looking up at me.
"Actually I was looking to see if anywhere was hiring. But so far-"
"We are!" She jumped up. "Mrs. West hasn't really been feeling up to the long shifts and was just talking about hiring someone!"
"Oh umm..." I wasn't sure what to say.
"It's not too hard. We have just been getting busier since the reopening and need two people per shift and don't have the numbers."
"Aubrey, thank you but I don't know if that would be the best idea."
She frowned. "Why not?"
I kinda thought it was obvious but she just looked at me confused. "Well, I'm not sure how the Angels would feel about me being around you." As if out of thin air, the guy from this morning came up behind Aubrey.
"Aubrey?" He said looking over her like he was looking for any damage I might have done to her. I rolled my eyes. How stupid did he think I was?
"Hey Clutch" She said, not seeming to notice his concern. She turned back to me. "Lennox, it's not a big deal. You are not the club." I bit the inside of my cheek thinking. "Let me get an application and if you find something else fine but just think about it. Please?"
I smiled at her. What the hell. "Fine, thank you!"
She smiled before all but running into the store. The guy, Clutch, looked over at me then his eyes fell to Zeus. He looked a bit confused and then angry.
"What?" I asked, kinda weirded out by him staring. He looked back at me and tilted his head to the side slightly.
"Here you go!" Aubrey came back out before he said anything. I filled out the application and handed it back to her.
"Tell them I can start whenever. But please make sure this is okay first." I said to her, shooting a glance behind her to the guy. "I really don't want to start any shit."
She waved her hand like it was nothing. "It will be, I promise!"
I guess we will see.
