06| The Girl They Barely Know

The sun was setting and I was still stuck at DX with a very annoying boy, also known as Sodapop. Every chance he got to make a cocky comment, he took the opportunity to torment me.

"Please tell me that you finish working in the next five minutes." I lifted my head from the counter and leaned it on my elbow.

Sodapop reached over the counter and pushed my arm that held my head, causing my elbow to give out and almost hit my head on the counter.

He snickered proudly at himself. "Don't worry. I'll take you home right after my shift." He told me.

"You're a jerk." I mumbled. Making sure to raise my voice loud enough for him to still be able to hear me.

Sodapop turnt to say a whitty comeback but was interrupted at the sound of the DX doors opening to loud voices.

I followed his gaze and landed mine on a a group of familiar Greasers. Dallas, Ponyboy, Two-Bit, and Johnny. Where was Steve? I thought they all traveled in packs like sardines.

"Should we come back another time?" Two-Bit wiggled his bros towards Sodapop and I.

I visibly cringed. While, Sodapop just laughed at the comment.

"What's a Soc doing in DX after what happened last night?" I heard Dallas's stupid voice. He really did know how to irritate me.

I looked over my shoulder and raised a brow at Sodapop. He still didn't tell me what happened last night.

When I looked back around, Johnny and Ponyboy were standing a lot closer to me and I smiled at the two.

"Hey, Clementine." Ponyboy smiled back. "What are you up to?" Johnny asked me.  For a second I thought I had imagined it. Johnny was the quiet one out of the group. He always kept to himself.

"Waiting for Sodapop."

Johnnys eyebrows knitted in the center of his forehead. He placed his hand in his jack and leaned back in his heel.

"Why ya waiting for Soda?"

"I'm stranded." I casually said. It was true. I phoned all the numbers I knew several times but no one answered, leaving me stuck.

Dallas shrugged his shoulder before digging through the DX inventory. "What were you doing on this side of town anyways?" He added.

If I talk about Danny will it hit a nerve? I mean there was just a big fight no too long ago and wouldn't be weird if I brought his name up?

When I glanced around the room, I could tell they all took notice to how hesitant I had become. Two-Bit made his way over to me and stood by side.

"You keeping secrets from us, orange girl?" He whispered, loudly.

"Depends on what you consider a secret." I smiled before plopping my feet on the ground.

Dallas seemed intrigued because next thing I know it he walked up to me, face to face, towering over my figure. His eyes stared into my soul. Suddenly, I remembered all the things Cherry warned me about Dallas.
