Hi guys! Sorry for the month long wait. I just got a new functioning laptop. I had initially written this chapter in my old laptop but unfortunately, it broke and now the file is gone forever. I'm re-writing the chapter and had to break the chapter in two because the second half will take time to write. Anyways, enjoy this short chapter! I'll post the rest soon. xx Sandra

Chapter 19

"But now there's nowhere to hide, since you pushed my love aside I'm out of my head. Hopelessly devoted to you."

"Good morning to you too, Bianca," I greeted as she slung her arm around my frail shoulders, melodramatically. I had been having a rather peaceful and quiet morning, until Bianca showed.

She turned to face me with a smug expression etched on her face and a sly smile on her lips. "Admit it, Al. You are so feeling hopelessly devoted by now," she said, swaying her hip towards mine.

"I don't know what you're talking about, B," I responded nonchalantly.

She groaned with annoyance, as we proceeded to walk towards first period together. "Sure you do. I mean, I don't know how you do it. How could you possibly stay in a committed relationship with Drew? Yeah, he's incredibly hot but come on! He's been M.I.A for weeks now. Does he even call?" She rolled her eyes, before winking towards a group of guys eyeing her with lust.

I drifted for a moment as she questioned me. I had seen Drew last week but I could not tell her without putting Drew in harm's way. I loved Drew; there was no question of it. However although I hated to admit it, Bianca had a point. I missed Drew dearly. I despised never knowing where he was or when he would show himself. I no longer wanted to be forever in waiting for him. I wanted to be assured of his safety and location. I understood that it would be too dangerous for him to call me yet having no contact with him had been leaving me in despair.

"Earth to Alice," Bianca said, as she waved a hand across my face in hopes of having my attention.

"W-what?" I replied, not having heard anything Bianca had said for the past few minutes.

"Nevermind, let's go. We're going to be late," she whined, before pulling me towards the classroom.

"Alice, hey!" Stefani waved, as she shimmied her way towards me.

I met her halfway, balancing my tray of food in both arms. Stefani was beaming, her body bouncing with excitement as that of a child's. I was glad to see her happy; after realizing the truth between what had happened between her and Drew, it was a relief to see her as she had been now.

"So, I'm turning seventeen this Saturday and I'm having a party at The Lighter to celebrate," she started. She glanced at my face examining my expression. I was certain I did not look too excited by the idea, nor was I feeling excited at all, really. She bit her lip before continuing. "I know you're not a fan of ..well, partying but can you come, please? For me?" Stefani pleaded, grasping my hands in hers. Hope filled her eyes as she awaited my response.

No, sorry, I had been about to respond but at that moment a thought occurred to me. This could be my chance. The timing could not have been more perfect. "Sure, why not? I wouldn't miss it," I said, smiling towards her in an attempt at conviction. I meant every word that I had said. I would not miss this opportunity for the world.

She squealed and threw her arms around me, delighted by my reply. "I knew you'd come for me! You're the best. See you then!" She said, as she broke away from the hug and slung her arm in mine. We headed towards our lunch table together, with Stefani quite obviously itching to tell the group the good news.

Little did Stefani know that I had barely planned to go for her. No, I was going for me.

----------------------------------------

Loud, thumping bass drowned all other sound outside of The Lighter. The entire place had been so filled with people that it seemed as though there was to be a concert held tonight. The crowd pushed against one another as they raced across the lot to enter the club. Not long after the doors had opened, the crowd turned wild. Everyone screamed with excitement, as they awaited the bouncer's approval for their entry. Pathetic, I thought to myself. Is this what our generation has become?

I sighed. Perhaps I had thought this way simply because I had more serious problems than convincing the bouncer that I was on the list, as what everyone was doing. Focus, Alice, I thought to myself. This was my chance and I had better not screw it up. I could only hope that all would go as planned. I hoped they would show tonight; no, I needed them to show tonight.

"Next please," the bouncer urged, pulling my attention away from my thoughts. "Name," he ordered in impatience.

I flushed, embarrassed and glanced up towards him. "Alice Denvar, sir," I murmured.

"What? Could you repeat that, please? Louder this time," the bouncer boomed.

"Alice Denvar!" I shouted loudly, feeling stupid for having forgotten that there was blasting music coming from inside the club.

"Alright, miss. Go on in," the bouncer annonced. "Next!"

I hurried towards the entrance and surveyed the entire dance floor for Stefani or Bianca. It was nearly impossible to find anyone with the number of people grinding against one another. I groaned with annoyance before deciding to take a seat at the bar. I glanced at my watch. 8.30pm. This was going to be a long night.

"There you are!" I heard a familiar shrill, as hands rested upon my hips.

"Hey Bianca," I greeted with a small smile, relieved to have found somebody I knew.

"What?" Bianca shouted again, frowning.

"Hey Bianca!" I greeted, screaming this time.

She smiled, before motioning towards the bar tender. "Can I have two Vespers? One for me and one for her," she ordered.

"Wait what? What's a Vesper?" I asked, never having heard of the drink before in my life.

"No, hun. It's The Vesper. Classic martini," Bianca corrected proudly. As I had examined Bianca from where I was seated, I noticed that she had already begun to sweat.

It took me a moment to finally register what she had just said. "What? No,I don't want any!" There had been no way I would be drinking tonight. I could not possibly risk getting even a slight amount drunk. Not tonight. Or ever, for that matter.

"Here we are! Martini served a la Bond," the bartender said in a sad attempt at a British accent, as he slid the drinks to me and Bianca.

"Come on, Al. It's a party! You have to get wasted!" Bianca urged, as she downed the entire drink at once.

I frowned in disgust. "Or we can go hit the dance floor," I suggested, pushing the drink far from me.

Bianca shrugged, gulping down my drink as well. "Fine by me. Come on!" she said, pulling me towards the body-filled dance floor.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Sweat trickled down my neck as I had continued to dance with strangers. I lost track of time completely as I swayed with the crowd. For the first time in months, I felt as though everything would be okay. I forgot about my illness. I forgot about everything that had worried me. I forgot about Drew. I felt free; almost as though I was flying, which I so immaturely wished I had the ability to do.

As I spun in circles, I caught a glimpse of a group dressed in black heading towards the stairs. I stopped dancing immediately, remembering why I had come. I focused upon the figures as they made their way upon the stairs. They're here.
