"My nigga my nigga" I answered the phone seeing my best friend, Taylor calling me.
I had met her in one of my classes once I had started college about a year ago. We looked similar except she was skinnier than me and lightskinned with hazel eyes. We clicked and since then we were as close as ever.
Once I had gotten to Atlanta, I stayed at a cheap motel every night with the money I did bring with me. Of course, that only lasted about 2 weeks and I was about to get kicked out until I explained my situation to the man who owned it. Luckily, we worked it out to where he would let me stay if I worked at the front desk. Soon, I was able to find another job at a local grocery store and after I saved up enough money, I quit the first one and moved into a nice sized apartment.
It was a smarter choice than staying on campus and I spent the scholarship money on books and supplies for school. I had situated everything out and I was honestly proud of myself. I was doing good to be 19 and completely on my own.
"Wachu doin girl"
"Nothin just got off work" I sighed plopping down on my living room couch. I was tired as hell and it was thankfully Thursday. I had weekends off.
"All you do." I could hear the irritation in her voice. She didn't work simply because she didn't have to. Her boyfriend, Joshua, took care of her and gave her whatever she wanted. I guess you can say he had money because he owned a shoe store somewhere downtown.
I wouldn't dare put myself in a situation like that again, depending on another person completely.
"It's what I have to do dumb ass."
"Anyways, we having a lil get together this weekend at the house, Josh cousin just got outta jail."
I rolled my eyes while holding the phone, dreading the fact that I would have to go to a social function. "Ok cool, I'll be there."
"You promise you'll actually enjoy yourself?"
I wasn't the type of girl to always go out or want to be around people I didn't know. If Taylor would drag me out with her, I was always be quiet and off to myself. It wasn't anything personal, I was jus a boring ass person. If I wasn't at work or school, I was at home chillin.
"Yessss." I huffed and rolled my eyes again.
"Yea, we'll see."
"Bye hoe, I'm bouta go hop in the shower and lay down."
"Buh byeeee. ", she sung before the line went dead.
Getting up and stretching, I made my way past my bedroom and into the bathroom. Slipping out of all my clothes and brushing my hair into a ponytail, I hopped into the shower feeling much better as soon as the warm water hit my skin.
After I got out, I put on lotion and slipped into a tank top and boy shorts. I hated sleeping hot so I kept clothes to a minimum if I even decided to put some on.
My phone lit up and I heard a loud ding indicating that I had a text message or notification. I grabbed it off the bathroom counter to see what is was. I instantly became annoyed at the name that appeared.
Callie 😒❌😫: wassup
My ex. The worst of them all, the first love. The one who broke my heart but I always found myself going right back to them. Ever since I left home, we spoke to each other here and there. He was the only person I still communicated with after I left New Jersey. I didn't even speak to my mom after I had left New Jersey. Was I over him? Mostly. He was the only thing I really knew, but we broke up because he was constantly cheating on me. I went back several times, but that was forced to stop once I came to Atlanta. The long distance thing made it harder for me to fall back into his games. And I was secretly grateful for it.
