CHAPTER THREE - Birthday

Y/n's POV

We arrived na here sa Lemery, akala ko diretso kami sa ancestral house nina lolo't lola dahil don naman talaga ang punta namin muna. Pero hinde, namalayan ko nalang nang mag-diretso si ate Maloi papunta sa beach house namin sa resort.

"Te, bakit hindi muna tayo dumaan kina lolo't lola?" tanong ko.

"Relax ka lang, Y/n," she said, grinning as if she had something up her sleeve.

Ha?

Bago pa ako makareklamo, nag-park na siya sa harap ng beach house. Kinuha ko na 'yung bag ko, para makababa na, but before I could even step out of the vehicle, the house front door burst open, and everyone came spilling out with the biggest smiles.

"Happy Birthday, Y/n!" they all shouted in unison.

Jhoanna, holding a cake with flickering candles, habang si Tricho nasa tabi niya, hawak ang mga balloons as well as Denise, Colet and Stacey, each of them wearing those ridiculous triangular party hats. Nakakatawa tingnan, lalo na yung ibang mukhang hindi sanay, pero game na game silang lahat.

Hindi ko napigilan, kahit na medyo na-overwhelm ako, hindi ko expect na may paganito sila. "Hala kayo. Akala ko simpleng get-together lang!" I said, laughing as I stepped out of the car.

"Simple lang naman 'to, birthday girl!" ate Maloi said with excitement as she wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "Kahit paano, deserve mo naman 'to, diba?"

Jhoanna came forward with the cake, smiling wide. "Make a wish, Y/n!" aniya.

I took a deep breath, smiling as I looked around at everyone, Then I closed my eyes, silently making a wish before blowing out the candles. Cheers erupted, at lahat sila nagpalakpakan, some clapping a bit too enthusiastically na halos pumula na ang mga palad nila.

I felt a warmth spreading through me, realizing how lucky I was to have all these people around. Kahit hindi na ito 'yung chill na plano ko, somehow, it felt like exactly what I needed.

Narinig ko na ang tunog ng mga kaldero't kawali mula sa loob ng bahay. Napangiti ako, alam ko na agad kung sino ang dahilan.

My grandparents na busy sa loob ng bahay, helping the maids prepare the food. Hindi pa rin nila napigilan ang sarili nila kahit na may mga kasamang katulong.

"Guys, tara na loob!" ate Maloi quickly ran inside.

Sumunod ako, stepping inside where the comforting aroma of home-cooked dishes filled the air. Pagtingin ko sa kitchen, lolo was there, busy slicing vegetables, habang si lola naman ay nagmi-mix ng sangkap sa malaking kaldero.

"Lolo! Lola!" I called out, my voice filled with excitement. They turned, huge smiles spreading across their faces as they saw me.

"Y/n! Happy birthday, apo!" bati ni lola, wiping her hands on her apron before coming over to give me a warm hug. "Sabi namin ni lolo, kami na ang bahala sa pagkain para ngayong birthday mo. "

Lolo, chuckling as he continued to chop. "Gusto namin siguraduhin na espesyal talaga 'to para sa'yo, apo."

Napangiti ako, feeling a wave of gratitude for them. "Lolo, lola, hindi naman kailangan pa, daming maids oh. Pwede naman kayong magpahinga nalang, diba?"

Lola laughed, patting my arm. "Aba, paano magiging espesyal kung hindi kami ang may gawa? Saka, masarap talaga magluto kapag para sa pamilya," she said, her voice filled with warmth.
