Mugil's POV:
As she walked into the room ahead of me, her silhouette framed against the soft glow of the bedside lamp, I felt my heart stir in a way it hadn't in months. Kayal had always been my anchor, my peace, and my chaos all at once. But since Adhiran's arrival, her focus had naturally shifted, leaving little room for moments like these. I understood it, respected it, even, but I couldn't deny how much I missed her—the laughter we shared, the closeness that used to be effortless.
Tonight, though, I wasn't letting anything come between us.
I locked the door behind me, the sound deliberate and final. She froze for a moment, her back still turned, clutching the water bottle like it was her shield. I smiled to myself, knowing exactly what was running through her mind. The air was charged with a tension that was both familiar and thrilling.
She turned to face me, her eyes wide, cheeks flushed. "Mugil," she began, her voice uncertain, but I closed the distance between us in a few long strides.
"Shh," I murmured, gently taking the bottle from her trembling hands and setting it aside. "No excuses tonight, Kayal."
I cupped her face, my thumbs brushing the softness of her cheeks, marveling at how she could look both nervous and beautiful all at once. "It's just us now," I said, my voice low and reassuring.
Her lips parted as if to protest, but I didn't let her. I leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that was slow, deliberate, and filled with everything I hadn't been able to say these past months. She hesitated at first, but then I felt her melt into me, her hands resting lightly on my chest before clutching my shirt as if to ground herself.
The world outside ceased to exist as I deepened the kiss, pulling her closer until there was no space left between us. Her warmth, her scent, the feel of her fingers curling into the fabric of my shirt—it was intoxicating.
"Kayal," I murmured against her lips, "I've missed you. More than words can say."
Her eyes softened, glistening with unspoken emotion. "I've missed you too," she whispered, her voice barely audible but laced with sincerity.
I smiled, pressing my forehead against hers. "Then let me remind you how much you mean to me."
I traced my hands down her arms, intertwining my fingers with hers. Slowly, I led her toward the bed, never breaking eye contact. She followed, her breaths shallow but steady.
As we sat down, I brushed her hair back, letting my fingers linger on her skin. "You're stunning," I said, the words slipping out like a confession.
Her blush deepened, and she looked away shyly, but I tilted her chin back up, reclaiming her gaze. "Don't hide from me. Not tonight."
She smiled then, a soft, radiant smile that made my heart skip a beat. The barriers she had put up for months began to crumble, and I could see the woman I had fallen in love with—the woman I would always love.
With a renewed sense of closeness, we let the night unfold naturally, rediscovering each other in every touch, every kiss, and every whispered word. It wasn't just about passion; it was about reconnecting, about remembering that even amidst the chaos of parenthood, we were still us.
And as we lay together afterward, her head resting on my chest, I realized that this moment, this night, wasn't just a rekindling—it was a promise. A promise to always find our way back to each other, no matter how much life changed around us.
